Famous Birthdays in History on this day:

  • Kumar Gaurav is an Indian film actor and son of late actor Rajendra Kumar. He made his film debut with Love Story (1981) produced by his father and directed by Rahul Rawail which was a blockbuster. Many youngsters began to emulate him. His next film, the 1982 release Teri Kasam with actress Poonam Dhillon, another heart-throb of the generation.
  • Tun Tun (1 January 1923 – 24 November 2003) was the screen name of Indian playback singer and actress-comedienne, Uma Devi Khatri, who is often called the ‘first woman comedienne of Hindi cinema’. Uma Devi Khatri, was born in a conservative Punjabi family, in a small village in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Bejan Daruwalla (born 11 July 1931) is a popular Indian astrology columnist. He has also served as a professor of English in Ahmedabad. Despite being of Parsi heritage, he is known to be an ardent follower of Shri Ganesh. His astrological techniques combines Indian and Western Astrology, I-Ching, Tarot reading, the Kabalah and Palmistry.
  • Nikhil D’Souza is an Indian playback singer, song writer and guitarist. He was the South Asia Soloist Winner at SUTASI ’09. He made his playback singing debut in Rajshree Ojha’s Aisha. Nikhil was born and brought up in Mumbai. He majored in Geology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He is a guitarist/singer-songwriter from Mumbai.

Death anniversaries on 11th July:

  • Sir Sultan Muhammed Shah, Aga Khan III, GCSI, GCMG, GCIE, GCVO, PC (November 2, 1877 – July 11, 1957) was the 48th Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. He was one of the founders and the first president of the All-India Muslim League, and served as President of the League of Nations from 1937-38. He was nominated to represent India to the League of Nations in 1932.
  • Bhisham Sahni (8 August 1915 – 11 July 2003) was a Hindi writer, playwright, and actor, most famous for his novel and television screenplay Tamas (“Darkness”), a powerful and passionate account of the Partition of India. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan for literature in 1998, and Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 2002.
  • T. R. Narasimharaju  ( 1923–1979 ) was an Indian Kannada popular actor specialising in roles that required ample comic timing. He has acted in more than 250 Kannada movies between 1954 and 1979. He had the necessary looks and voice needed by a comedian.

  • 1630 – Rezabeebeth Sookeas Begum passed away.
  • 1832 – British Parliament finally rejected to remove the appeal of Hindus puritans against Sutee abolition, as demanded by tradional orthodox Indians.
  • 1882 – Baba Kanshi Ram, great freedom fighter and social reformer, was born at Dada Siba village, Tehsil Dehra District, Kangra.
