Vikram Shankar Pandit (born 14 January 1957) is an Indian-born American banker. He is the chief executive of Citigroup, a position he has held since December 2007. He holds a B.S. and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. in Finance from Columbia Business School.
Seema Biswas (born 14 January 1965) is an Indian film and theatre actress from Assam who shot into prominence with the role of Phoolan Devi in Shekhar Kapur’s film Bandit Queen (1994). She has a reputation for performing strong character roles. Biswas won the 1996 National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Bandit Queen.
Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan (Telugu: జయప్రకాష్ నారాయణ ; born in 1956), known as JP, is a Indian politician, political reformer and columnist. He is the Founder and the President of Lok Satta Party and currently a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Kukatpally constituency in Andhra Pradesh, in south-east India. He is also a former Indian public administrator.
Mahasweta Devi (Bengali: মহাশ্বেতা দেবী Môhashsheta Debi) (born 1926) is an Indian social activist and writer. Mahasweta Devi was born in 1926 in Dhaka, to literary parents in a Hindu Brahmin family. Her father Manish Ghatak was a well-known poet and novelist of the Kallol era, who used the pseudonym Jubanashwa. Noted filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak was the elder brother of Manish Ghatak.
Jandhyala Veera Venkata Durga Siva Subramanya Sastry (14 January 1951 – 19 June 2001) was an Indian film Screenwriter, Director and Actor from Telugu Cinema. He is revered as a Comic genius and has directed several successful comedy movies in Telugu. He has also introduced several comedy actors including Brahmanandam to the film industry.

Jaishankar Prasad (January 30, 1889 – January 14, 1937), one of the most famous figures in modern Hindi literature as well as Hindi theatre. Jaishankar Prasad was born on January 30, 1889, in an elite madheshiya vaisya family in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. His father Babu Devki Prasad, also known as Sunghani Sahu (सुंघनी साहू), was a tobacco dealer.
Chitragupta Shrivastava (16 November 1917 – 14 January 1991), better known by his first name alone, was an Indian film music director of the 1960s. Chitragupta composed music for films like Bada Aadmi,Aplam Chaplam, Opera House, Zabak, Aulad, Main Chup Rahoongi, Akash Deep, Bhabhi (1957), Oonche Log ,Main Shaadi Karane Chala, Ganga ki Laharen, Ek Raazetc .
Satyam Patel (Gujarati સત્યમ્ પટેલ) (August 4, 1932 – January 14, 2005) was a social worker and activist for the cause of labourers, farmers, untouchables and religious unity in the western state of Gujarat in India. Satyam Patel was born to Dr. Kishorbhai Patel and Maniben Patel in the city of Vadodara in Gujarat, India. He was the 4th of the seven children.
Guru Mani Madhava Chakyar ( Māni Mādhava Chākyār, Devanāgarī: माणि माधव चाक्यार्, Malayalam: മാണി മാധവ ചാക്യാര്‍) (15 February 1899 – 14 January 1990) was a celebrated master performance artist and Sanskrit scholar from Kerala, South India, considered to be the greatest Chakyar Koothu and Koodiyattam (ancient Sanskrit drama theatre tradition) artist and authority of modern times.
H. M. Reddy (12 June 1892 – 14 January 1960) produced the first south talkie movie, Bhakta Prahlada. His full name was Hanumappa Muniappa Reddy and he was also referred as HM Reddy. Before making his own productions, he worked as assistant to Ardeshir Irani, creator of the first Indian talkie Alam Ara. He produced successful Telugu movies such as Tenali Ramakrishna, Kalidas and Gruha Lakshmi.

1760 Eyree Coote, British Army Captain, captured and surrendered Pondicherry, capitulated French General Lally.
1761 Emperor of England’s charter allowed the East India Company to keep to any booty taken in war against the enemies of the king and the company. The confisticated goods, after the war, could be kept with them.
1938 Belur Math, new temple, was consecrated in Calcutta.
1946 Two jetties collapse in Ganges; 160 Hindu pilgrims are crushed
1948 First issue of Marathi daily newspaper ‘Loksatta’ was published.
