  • Naseeruddin Shah (born 20 July 1950) is an Indian/Bollywood film actor and director. He is widely considered to be one of the best actors produced by India. In 2003, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions towards Indian cinema. Shah was born on 20 July 1950 in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, India where his father was a Navy officer.
  • Gracy Singh (born on 20 July 1980 in Delhi, India), is an Indian actress. She is best known for her role as Gauri in Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India. She began her career touring with the dance group “The Planets” and her first acting role was in the television soap, Amanat. She then got an acting role in the film Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (as Kajol’s younger sister) and also in Hu Tu Tu.
  • Naman Vinaykumar Ojha (born 20 July 1983) is an Indian first-class cricketer. He represents Madhya Pradesh in first-class cricket. He is a wicket keeper and a hard hitting batsman. He represented Rajasthan Royals in the 2009 Indian Premier League in South Africa. He opened the batting for the Royals and played some important innings. He scored two half centuries and hit 11 sixes in the tournament.
  • Debasish (or Debasis) Sarbeswar Mohanty (born July 20, 1976, Bhubaneswar, Orissa) is a former Indian cricketer who played in 2 Tests and 45 ODIs from 1997 to 2001.He was a right-arm medium-fast bowler who coupled pace to his naturally lanky frame. He found success in the limited overs format, averaging under 30 and taking over 1 wicket per game.
  • Ashok Kumar (born 20 July 1983) is a professional golfer from India, currently playing on the Professional Golf Tour of India, where he was the 2003/04 and the 2006/07 Order of Merit winner. Kumar was born in Bihar in 1983 and turned professional in 2002. In 2004, he won the Hero Honda Golf Tour Order of Merit for the 2003/04 season.

Death anniversaries on 20th July:

  • Geeta Dutt born Geeta Ghosh Roy Chowdhuri) (23 November 1930 – 20 July 1972 ) was a prominent singer in India, born in Faridpur before Partition. She found particular prominence as a playback singer in Hindi cinema. She also sang many modern Bengali songs. Geeta Ghosh Roy Chowdhuri was one of 10 children born in the rich Zamindar family of Debendranath Ghosh Roy Chowdhary and Amiya Devi.
  • Khurshed Alam Khan (born 5 February 1919) is an Indian politician and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress political party. He was Governor of Karnataka from 1991 to 1999 and governor of Goa from 1989 to 1991. Before that he was Union minister of External affairs in Government of India. He is associated with Jamia Millia Islamia. Khurshed Alam Khan was born in on February 5.
  • Amit Jethwa (also Amit Jethava) (1975 – 20 July 2010) was an Indian environmentalist and social worker, active in the Gir Forest area near Junagadh, Gujarat. He had filed several court cases against illegal mining in the protected area, naming Bharatiya Janata Party member of parliament, Dinu Solanki as one of the respondents. On 20 July 2010 he was shot dead by two assailants on a motorbike.

  • 1296 – Allau’d-din Khalji declared himself as King of Delhi after assissinating Jalal’ud-din Khalji. (19 0r 20).
  • 1531 – Tulsidas, Mahakavi Saint, was born.
