  • Chiranjeevi (born Konidala Siva Sankara Vara Prasad on 22 August 1955) is a Indian film actor and a politician. He has worked primarily with Telugu Cinema, but has appeared in several Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films. He made his acting debut in 1978 through the film Punadhirallu. However, Pranam Khareedu released earlier at the box office. Subsequently, he played a variety of characters.
  • Ashfaq Ahmed (August 22, 1925 – September 7, 2004) was a distinguished writer, playwright, broadcaster, intellectual and spiritualist from Pakistan. His qualities of head and heart, in particular his ability to weave Islamic (sufi) wisdom into everyday folk experience earned appreciation across the world.

  • Harshit Saxena (born 21 August 1985) is an Indian Singer and Music Composer. He is one of the well-known contestant of Amul STAR Voice of India and Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar. He made his playback debut in Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan.He sang and composed a super hit song of the Emraan Hashmi starer Murder 2 , Haal-e-dil, in 2011. He was also awarded the ‘UPCOMING MUSIC COMPOSER’ Award by Radio Mirchi.
  • Neville Ness Wadia (22 August 1911 – 31 July 1996) was an English businessman, philanthropist and a member of the Wadia family, an old Parsi family which, by the 1840s, was one of the leading forces in the Indian shipbuilding industry, having built over a hundred warships for the British and having established trading networks around the world.
  • Harishankar Parsai (August 22, 1924 – 1995) was a Hindi writer. He was a noted satirist and humorist of modern Hindi literature and is known for his simple and direct style. He was born in Jamnia village near Itarsi in Hoshangabad district, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his M.A. in English from R.T.M. Nagpur University.

  • Vimi (d. August 22, 1977) was a Bollywood film actress who acted in few films such as Humraaz, Vachan, Patanga and Abroo. Vimi (Vimmi) debuted against Sunil Dutt in B. R. Chopra directed Hamraaz in 1967. The film was hit but did not much help in taking off her career. She also paired against Shashi Kapoor in Patangaa (1971) and Vachan (1974). She also was leading lady of the movie Aabroo (1968).
  • Dwarkanath Vidyabhusan (1820 – 22 August 1886) was an Indian scholar, editor and publisher of the trend-setting weekly Bengali newspaper Somprakash. His father, Harachandra Bhattacharya (better known as Nyayratna) was a scholar. He had studied under Kashinath Tarkalankar, who had a popular traditional centre of education at Hatibagan in north Kolkata.
  • Raj Shankar (2 April 1947, Gorakhpur, India-22 August 2000), was an Indian biochemist. His main fields of specialization were neurobiochemistry and clinical biochemistry. His contributions on neurochemistry are well recognized and he had been invited to deliver lectures in various prestigious conferences.
  • Kishore Sahu (22 November 1915 – 22 August 1980) was an Indian actor, film director, screenwriter and producer. He appeared in 22 films between 1937 and 1980.His directorial venture Kuwara Baap was one of the winners for the Best Indian Films Awards for best film for 1943.His film Raja “remains a milestone of art and skill in motion pictures”.His film Verr Kunal was huge box office success. He directed Dilip Kumar with Kamini Kaushal in Nadiya Ke Paar, which became the sixth highest grossing Indian film of 1948.

  • 1877 – Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy, great painter, philosopher, linguist, critic, art researcher in the East, was born at Colombo in Sri Lanka.
  • 1915 – Shambhu Mishra, Bengali actor, director and playwright, was born.
