Saigal and watched Devdas 14 times. She earned 15 rupees per song and was awarded 5,000 on the completion of the contract on Xenophone, a renowned music recording company.
  • Maliampurackal Chacko Punnoose, known as Navodaya Appachan (c. 1925 – 23 April 2012) was an Indian film producer, director, and entrepreneur. He is best known for his work in Malayalam cinema, especially as the founder of Navodaya Studio.
  • 1616: William Shakespeare, the great poet and playwright of English literature, died on April 23.
