  • Israr Ahmed (April 26, 1932 – April 14, 2010) was a Pakistani Islamic theologian followed particularly in South Asia and also among the South Asian diaspora in the Middle East, Western Europe, and North America. Born in Hissar, (today’s Haryana) in India, the second son of a government servant, he is the founder of the Tanzeem-e-islami.
  • Moushumi Chatterjee (26 April 1953; Bengali) is a Bollywood actress, who has also acted in Bengali cinema. She worked with actors like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra and Vinod Mehra. Chatterjee was born in Calcutta.
  • A. V. Baliga FRCS (1904–1964) was a physician, an educationist and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. Several institutes in India are named after him.

Death anniversaries on 26th April:

  • Srinivasa Ramanujan FRS pronunciation (help·info) (26 April 1920) was an Indian mathematician and autodidact who, with almost no formal training in pure mathematics, made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued fractions. Ramanujan was said to be a natural genius.
  • Shankar Jaikishan  also known as S/J, is an Indian music composer duo in the Hindi film industry, working together from 1949–1971. Shankar-Jaikishan, along with other artists, wrote “everlasting” and “immortal melodies” in fifties and sixties.
  • Prabha Rau  26 April 2010) was an Indian politician and the Governor of Rajasthan state of India, since December 2009, following the death of previous governor S.K. Singh. She was also the governor of Himachal Pradesh as well as the former president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee.

Notable Events:

  • 1841-Bombay Gazette begins publishing on silk.
  • 1924-Ramabai Ranade, social reformer, passed away. She played a major role in the enlistment of women in India and founded Sevasadan in Bombay, a hostel for the ladies.
  • 1926– Karachi Autonomous Region established in RSFSR (until 1943).
