  • Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu  commonly known as Mother Teresa (26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997) was an Albanian–born Indian Roman Catholic nun. “By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus.”
  • Dalip Singh Rana (born 27 August 1972), better known by his ring name The Great Khali, is an Indian professional wrestler, actor, and powerlifter. He is currently working for WWE as a member of the SmackDown roster. He debuted alongside Daivari and had alliances with Ranjin Singh and Jinder Mahal. However he spent most of his career as a singles superstar and in 2007 he became the World Heavyweight Champion.
  • Neha Dhupia is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films. She is a former beauty queen and winner of Femina Miss India 2002. Dhupia was born in Cochin, Kerala, India to a Punjabi Sikh family. Her father, Commander Pradip Singh Dhupia, served in the Indian Navy and mother, Manpinder, is a homemaker. She went to Naval Public School then transferred to Army Public School.
  • Satyabrata Rai Chowdhuri, FRAS (born 1935) is a Political Scientist, Political Historian and International Relations expert. He is presently a Senior Research Fellow in International Relations at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London, U.K., and an Emeritus Professor of Political Science at India’s University Grants Commission.

Death anniversaries on 27th August:

  • Mukesh Chand Mathur (22 July 1923 – 27 August 1976), better known mononymously as Mukesh, was an Indian playback singer of Bollywood. He, alongside Mohammad Rafi, Manna Dey, Talat Mahmood and Kishore Kumar, left such an impact on the Hindi film industry that they are still remembered to date. Amongst the numerous nominations and awards he won, his song “Kai Baar Yuhi Dekha Hai” from film Rajnigandha.
  • Hrishikesh Mukherjee Hrishikesh Mukhopaddhae/Mukharji (30 September 1922–27 August 2006) was a famous Indian film director known for a number of films, including Satyakam, Chupke Chupke, Anupama, Anand, Abhimaan, Guddi, Gol Maal, Aashirwad, Bawarchi, and Namak Haraam. Popularly known as Hrishi-da, he directed 42 films during his career.

  • Chittaranjan Mitra, popularly known as CR Mitra and CRM, was an Indian scientist who is best remembered as the second Director of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS). He played a pivotal role in the transformation of the Institute from a local engineering college to a reputed university. Born in 1926 in Allahabad in the erstwhile United Provinces of British India.
  • Basu Bhattacharya (1934–1997) was a Hindi film director, most famous for his 1966 film Teesri Kasam, starring Raj Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman (based on a short story – “Maare Gaye Gulfam” by Phanishwar Nath ‘Renu’), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 1967; he also produced Sparsh in 1985 starring Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah, which won the Filmfare Best Movie Award.
