Sadashiv Amrapurkar is a popular actor who is well known for his performances in Marathi and Hindi films in the 1980s and 90s. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role in 1991 for Sadak — the first time the award was instituted. In addition to negative roles, he has shone in supporting roles and, more recently, in comic roles.
Shanthi Krishna is an Indian dancer and film actress who is best known for her lead roles in Malayalam and Tamil films of the 1980s and early-90s. She has won the Kerala State Film Award in 1992 and 1994. She was born to R. Krishan and Sharada in Mumbai. She completed her education in Mumbai S.I.E.S College and General Education Academy.

    Chandrashekhara Kambara (Kannada: ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ ಕಂಬಾರ) (born January 2, 1937) is a prominent poet, playwright, folklorist, film director in Kannada language and the founder-vice-chancellor of Kannada University in Hampi. He is known for his effective usage of North Karnataka dialect of Kannada language in his plays and poems and is often compared with D.R. Bendre.

    Safdar Hashmi (April 12, 1954 – January 2, 1989) was a Communist playwright, actor, director, lyricist, and theorist, chiefly associated with Street theatre in India, and is still considered an important voice in political theatre in India. He was a founding member of Jana Natya Manch (People’s Theatre Front; Janam for short) in 1973, which grew out of the Indian People’s Theatre Association.

  • Harekrushna Mahatab (November 21, 1899 – January 2, 1987) was a leader of the Indian National Congress, a notable figure in the Indian independence movement and the Chief Minister of Orissa from 1946 to 1950 and again from 1956 to 1961. He was popularly known by the sobriquet Utkal Keshari. Harekrushna Mahtab was born at Agarpada village in Bhadrak district of Orissa.Philomina (1926 – 2 January 2006) was a veteran Malayalam film actress. She had acted in more than 750 films in her career. She played mostly character and comedy roles, besides that of grandmother and mother. She started acting on the stage. This experience stood her in good stead when she was offered her first film role.John Forbes Royle (1799 – 2 January 1858), British botanist and teacher of materia medica, was born in Kanpur (then Cawnpore) in 1799. Entering the service of the East India Company as assistant surgeon, he devoted himself to studying botany and geology, and made large collections among the Himalaya Mountains.
