Sardar Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel  (31 October 1875 – 15 December 1950) was an Indian barrister and statesman, one of the leaders of the Indian National Congress and one of the founding fathers of India. He is known to be a social leader of India who played an unparalleled role in the country’s struggle for independence.

Dharmesh Yelande popularly known in the dance world as Dharmesh Sir(born 31 Oct) is an Indian dancer and choreographer. He is mainly known for participating in shows like Dance India Dance (season 2), Dance India Dance Li’l Masters, and Dance Ke Superstars all of which aired on Zee TV.

Samvrutha Sunil (also known as Samvritha; born October 31, 1986) is a South Indian actress from Kerala, predominantly appearing in Malayalam films. She was introduced to the film industry through the Malayalam film Rasikan directed by Lal Jose. She has appeared in Telugu and Tamil films as well. Samvrutha was born in Kannur district in the state of Kerala.

Oommen Chandy(born October 31, 1943 in Puthuppally, Travancore, Indian Empire) is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Kerala. He has held the Chief Minister of Kerala position earlier from 2004 to 2006, and was the Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2011. Oommen Chandy or ‘Kunjoonju’ was born to K.O.

G. Madhavan Nair (born October 31, 1943) is the former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation and Secretary to the Department of Space, Government of India since September 2003. He is also the Chairman, Space Commission and acts as the Chairman of Governing Body of the Antrix Corporation, Bangalore.

Death anniversaries on 31st October :

Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi ( 19 November 1917 – 31 October 1984) was an Indian politician who served as the third Prime Minister of India for three consecutive terms (1966–77) and a fourth term (1980–84). Gandhi was the second female head of government in the world after Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka.

Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati (Born:12 February 1824 – Died:30 October 1883. ) was an important Hindu religious scholar, reformer, and founder of the Arya Samaj, a Hindu reform movement. He was the first to give the call for Swarajya – “India for Indians” – in 1876, later taken up by Lokmanya Tilak.

Raj Chandra Bose (19 June 1901 – 31 October 1987) was an Indian American mathematician and statistician best known for his work in design theory and the theory of error-correcting codes in which the class of BCH codes is partly named after him.

Thomas Thomas (August 29, 1917 – October 31, 1998), widely known as “Dr. T. Thomas”, was the first cardio-thoracic surgeon of Indian citizenship, as well as a prolific author and poet. He was trained by Reeve H. Betts in cardio-thoracic surgery at the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India.

Radha Burnier (born 15 November 1923 in Adyar, India) is president of the Theosophical Society Adyar since 1980. She was General Secretary of the Indian Section of the Society between 1960 and 1978. She is the daughter of Nilakanta Sri Ram who was the fifth President of the T.S. Adyar as well.

Notable Events: 

1885: St. Stephen’s Hospital was opened. It was the first hospital for women and children at                   Delhi.

1955: The Prime Minister inaugurated the Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union factory at Anand,              Gujarat.

1984: Rajiv Gandhi sworn in as Prime Minister of India by Gyani Zail Singh, President of India, at             New Delhi. He held this office till December 1, 1989.
