Babu Jagjivan Ram – Jagjivan Ram was also known as “Babuji” in political circles. He was an Independence activist and politician who was born in Arrah, Bihar in 1908. He was the youngest minister in Jawaharlal Nehru first cabinet and was given the portfolio of Labour Minister. He served as a Minister for 40 years with subsequent Indian National Congress (INC) governments, the most important being the Defense minister portfolio during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Anu Garg – Anu Garg is an Indian born American citizen who was born on April 5, 1967 in Meerut, India. He founded wordsmith.org which is an online community for word lovers from over 200 countries. Death anniversaries on 5th April:

Divya Bharti – Divya Om Prakash Bharti was an Indian model and film actress who acted in commercial movies in Hindi and Telugu cinema. She started her career at an age of 14 and gave her first blockbuster hit in Telugu named “Bobbilli Raja” at the age of 16. Her career in Bollywood peaked in 1992 where she was part of more than 14 Hindi films which is still an unbroken record. Divya Bharti died on 5 April 1993 under mysterious circumstances after falling off from her Apartment balcony in Versova, Mumbai.

Notable Events:

  • Mopin is the harvest festival of the hospitable Galo tribe, focused on the worship of goddess Mopin. It’s celebrated on 5th April to drive away evil spirits, and for acquiring prosperity and wealth. An indigenous folk dance called Popir, performed by young women, is a highlight of the festival. Traditional rice wine (apong), prepared by Galo women, is also served.
  • 1962 NASA civilian pilot Neil Armstrong takes X-15 to 54,600 m
