Sir Muhammad Iqbal  (November 9, 1877 – April 21, 1938), also known as Allama Iqbal  was a philosopher, poet and politician in British India who is widely regarded as having inspired the Pakistan Movement. He is considered one of the most important figures in Urdu literature, with literary work in both the Urdu and Persian languages.

Neelam Kothari  (born 9 November 1968) is a former Indian actress and a jewellery designer. After her early childhood in Hong Kong, her family moved to Bangkok. Neelam was holidaying in Mumbai when she was approached by director Ramesh Behl. She decided to give acting a shot and performed in the film Jawaani in 1984 alongside Karan Shah (Tina Munim’s nephew).

Payal Rohatgi (born in Hyderabad) is an Indian actress and model who appears in Bollywood films. Rohatgi was born in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, India on November 9, 1979. She is the daughter of Veena Rohatgi and Shashank Rohatgi. She has a brother named Gaurav Rohatgi. She was brought up in a middle class family and grew up in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Ajoy Ghatak (born November 9, 1939) is an Indian physicist and author of physics textbooks. He is arguably the father of modern India’s research and education programs in photonics & optics. He obtained his PhD from Cornell University in Sept., 1963 for dissertation titled “Non linear prompt neutron kinetics in multigroup diffusion theory”.

Manuel Sathyaneshan Nadar ( 11 November 1912 – 15 June 1971) commonly known by his stage name Sathyan, was an Indian film actor known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He has won the Kerala State Film Award twice and was renowned for his versatile acting skills.

Har Gobind Khorana also known as Hargobind Khorana (January 9, 1922 – November 9, 2011) was an Indian-born American biochemist who shared the 1968 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Marshall W. Nirenberg and Robert W. Holley for research that helped to show how the nucleotides in nucleic acids, which carry the genetic code of the cell, control the cell’s synthesis of proteins.

Kocheril Raman Narayanan  pronunciation ( 27 October 1920 – 9 November 2005), also known as K. R. Narayanan, was the tenth President of India. He was the first Dalit, and the first Malayali, to have been President.

Thengai Srinivasan  (21 October 1937 – 9 November 1988) was an Indian Tamil film actor popular in the 1970s and 1980s. He has been given the title Thengai (coconut) after he acted as a coconut-seller in the drama Kal Manam, staged by actor K. Kannan. Though basically a comedian, he proved himself an all-rounder by excelling in roles other than comedy.

Chandra Pulla Reddy (1917 – 9 November 1984, Calcutta) was an Indian communist leader. Chandra Pulla Reddy was born in 1917 at Velugodu village in what is currently the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. A leading activist in Indian freedom struggle as a student of Guindy Engineering College of the then Madras (present Chennai) against British colonial rule. He was dismissed from the college.

Niranjan Pal (17 August 1889 – 9 November 1959) was a playwright, screenwriter and director in the Indian film industry in the silent and early talkie days. He was a close associate of Himanshu Rai and Franz Osten, with whom he was a founding member of Bombay Talkies.

1948: Administration of Mayurbhanj State taken over by the Government of India.
