Fertilizer Subsidy

News –

  • A historic decision was made to raise the DAP fertiliser subsidy from Rs. 500 per bag  to Rs. 1200 per bag, which is an increase of  140

  • DAP stands for Diammonium Phosphate
  • DAP is the second most commonly used fertilizers in India after  urea
  • Due to its high phosphorus (P) content, which promotes root development, farmers typically apply this fertiliser before or at the  commencement of sowing.

National Mission on  edible oil

  • The Prime Minister has announced a new national plan to help farmers make more  money from palm oil.
  • This plan is called National Edible Oil  Mission-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) which is to  make India a Self-reliant country on palm
  • The agenda is to reduce the import dependence .
  • India is the largest importer of the palm oil in the world.
  • The idea is also to regulate the price which is currently dependent on Crude Palm Oil

Features of the scheme

  • India’s north-eastern states and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands will be  given special attention because of their favourable climatic conditions.
  • For the production of oil palm
  • Oil palm farmers will receive financial help and compensation based on a price and viability calculation as part of the programme.

Hydroponics and  Aeroponics

Context in News

  • National Housing Bank (NHB) is providing subsidy for a project called “Development  of Commercial Horticulture through  Production & Post-Harvest Management”  provides a subsidy for hydroponics and  aeroponics farming in India

National Program for organic production

Features of the scheme

  • NPOP grants organic farming certification through a process of third party
  • It involves the accreditation programme for Certification Bodies, standards for  organic production, promotion of organic farming etc.
  • It is implemented by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
  • The NPOP standards for production and accreditation system have been recognized by the European Commission, Switzerland and USA as equivalent to  their respective accreditation systems.
