  • Sunil Shetty (born August 11, 1961) is an Indian film actor, producer, hotelier and liquor and fashion boutique owner. He is mainly active in Bollywood. Shetty made his acting debut in the 1992 in the film Balwaan, which was an average success. He gave 2 average grossers films in 1993 Pehchaan and Waqt Hamara Hai. His first major blockbuster hit was the 1994 action thriller Mohra.
  • Jesse Randhawa (born 11 August 1975) is an Indian model and actress. Jasmeet Kaur Randhawa, a.k.a. Jesse Randhawa, was born on August 11, 1975 in Jaipur to Mehar and Narinder Singh Randhawa. She belongs to a Sikh family of the Randhawa Gotra. She is originally from Jaipur. Her sister Saadhika is a Bollywood actress. Jesse Randhawa is a successful model and has worked with many designers.
  • M. S. (Madabusi Santanam) Raghunathan is an Indian mathematician. He is currently Head of the National Centre for Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. Formerly Professor of eminence at TIFR in Homi Bhabha Chair. Raghunathan received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from (TIFR), University of Mumbai; his advisor was M. S. Narasimhan.
  • Modireddy Venkat ‘Bobjee’ Narasimha Rao  (born 11 August 1954, Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh) is a former Indian cricketer who played in 4 Tests from 1978 to 1979. He was picked to play against West Indies in 1978-79 but after two Tests he was dropped.

Death anniversaries on 11th August:

  • Ramnath Dhondu Parkar (October 31, 1946, Mumbai, Maharashtra – August 11, 1999, Mumbai) was an Indian cricketer who played in 2 Tests in 1972 against Tony Lewis’ England team touring India. He represented Mumbai in Ranji Trophy and played in 85 first class matches in his career. Parkar became unconscious when his two-wheeler was knocked down by another vehicle in Mumbai in December 1995. Multiple surgeries and therapies were tried to revive him. He remained in coma for 43 months and died in August 1999.
  • Amritsar Govindsingh Ram Singh (July 14, 1910 – August 11, 1999) was an Indian first-class cricketer. An allrounder, he bowled slow left-arm orthodox and was a left-handed middle order batsman. His son A. G. Kripal Singh played Test cricket for India. Ram Singh played for Madras and was just the second player in history to achieve the Ranji Trophy double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets.
  • Paidi Jairaj, Jayraj or Jai Raj (September 28, 1909 – August 11, 2000) was a renowned film actor, director and producer. He was recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Award for lifetime achievement in 1980. Jairaj was born in Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh State on September 28, 1909. A close relative of Sarojini Naidu, he received his education in Hyderabad.

    Notable Events:

  • 1347 – Allau’d-din Hasan Gangu alias Jafar Khan. The Muslim kingdom of Bahmani dynasty in the south as Sultan Allau’d-din Khalji. He renamed Gulbarga, his capital as ‘Hasanabad’.
  • 1893 – First Hindu-Muslim riots in Maharashtra.
  • 1908 – Khudiram Bose was hanged on this day in Central Jail at Mujaffarpur, Bihar at the age of 19 years. He along with Prafulla Chaki had planned to bomb the carriage supposed to be carrying Kingsford, unfortunately he was betrayed and was caught and finally was sentenced to death and hanged. This day is observed as “Martyr’s Day” in memory of the great freedom fighter. Even today the soul stirring songs composed in his honour are sung by Bengali folk-singers.
