Amartya Sen, CH (Bengali: অমর্ত্য সেন, translit. Ômorto Shen; born 3 November 1933) is an Indian economist who was awarded the 1998 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to welfare economics and social choice theory, and for his interest in the problems of society’s poorest members.

Sonali Kulkarni (born 3 November 1974) is an Indian actress. She was born in Pune. She has worked in Marathi and Hindi films. She is known for her roles in Dil Chahta Hai, Singham, Taxi No 9211, and Gair. Sonali Kulkarni first made her appearance on the screen in a Kannada film titled Cheluvi directed by Girish Karnad.

Prithviraj Kapoor (Hindi:पृथ्वीराज कपूर, Pṛithvīrāj Kapūr), 3 November 1901 –29 May 1972) was a pioneer of Indian theatre and of the Hindi film industry, who started his career as an actor, in the silent era of Hindi cinema, associated with IPTA and who founded Prithvi Theatres, a travelling theatre company based in Mumbai, in 1942.

Lakshmikant Berde (3 November 1954 – 16 December 2004; Mumbai) was an Indian actor who appeared in Marathi and Hindi movies. From his early years, Lakshmikant was interested in acting. His participation in stage dramas during the cultural activities for Ganesh festival celebrations performed at Konkanasth Vaishya Samaj, Girgaum got him interested in acting.

Ishfaq Ahmad (Urdu: اشفاق احمد), D.Sc., Minister of State, SI, HI, NI, FPAS, (born 3 November 1930) is a Pakistani nuclear physicist, and well-known educationist and academic from Pakistan. A versatile theoretical physicist, Ahmad made significant contributions in nuclear.

Death anniversaries on 3rd November :

Premnath Malhotra (21 November 1926 – 3 November 1992) was an actor in Indian films. Born in Peshawar in a punjabi khatri family, his family moved to Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh after partition, he then had moved to Bombay. He married the actress Bina Rai with whom he fathered actor Prem Krishen and Kailash Nath (Monty).

Sashadhar Mukherjee (Bengali: শশধর মুখার্জী) was a producer in Hindi films. He is part of the distinguished Mukherjee clan of Bollywood. Sashadhar was Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar’s brother-in-law, being married to their only sister, Sati Rani. He was also instrumental in getting Ashok Kumar into films.

Narendra Prasad (26 December 1946 – 3 November 2003) was a popular Indian movie actor, playwright, director, teacher and literary critic. He was born at Mavelikara, Alappuzha District, in the south Indian state of Kerala. He studied at Bishop Moore College, Mavelikkara for the Pre-degree and at N. S. S. College, Pandalam, for his degree (in Mathematics) and Institute of English.

Purushottama Lal (August 28, 1929 – November 3, 2010) was an Indian poet, essayist, translator, professor and publisher. He was the founder and publisher of Writers Workshop in Calcutta, established in 1958. Born in Kapurthala in the state of Punjab, he studied English at the St Xavier’s College, and later at the University of Calcutta.

Sir Dinshah Irani (November 4, 1881 – November 3, 1938) was an Indian lawyer and distinguished benefactor of the Zoroastrian communities of both India and Iran. Dinshah Irani is most famous for founding the ‘Iranian Zoroastrian Anjuman’ in 1918 and of the ‘Iran League’ in 1922.

1605: Salim renamed himself as Jahangir and became the king of Agra.
1618: Aurangzeb, [Alamgir], great Mughal emperor (1658-1707), was born at Dohad in Gujarat.
1948: Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime Minister of India, delivered his maiden speech in United Nations            Organisation (U.N.O.) General Assembly.

1961: Gold Bond scheme was started to boost Indian economy after Indo-China war.

1991: India’s short range surface-to-air missile (SAM) ‘Trishul’ successfully tested.
