EARLY LIFE
- Nooyi was born in Madras, India, in 1955, and was a bit of a rule breaker in her conservative, middleclass world as she grew up.
- In an era in India where it was considered unseemly for young women to exert themselves, she joined an allgirls’ cricket team.

EDUCATION
- Nooyi did her schooling in Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in T.Nagar. Nooyi received a bachelor’s degrees in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from Madras Christian College of the University of Madras in 1974 and a Post Graduate Programme Diploma from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta in 1976.

- Nooyi’s first job after earning her degree was with Tootal, a British textile company.

- The rivalry between Pepsi, the flagship product of Indra Nooyi’s company, and its Atlanta, Georgiabased competitor, Coca-Cola, is one of corporate America’s longest-running marketing battles. In the United States alone, the soft-drink industry is a $60 billion one, with the average American consuming a staggering fifty-three gallons of carbonated soft drinks every year.

- Pepsi only moved into international territory in the 1950s, but scored a major coup in 1972 when it inked a deal with the Soviet Union. With this deal, Pepsi became the first Western product ever sold to Soviet consumers.
- Coke is the leader in market share for carbonated colas. Nooyi joined PepsiCo in 1994 and was named CEO in 2001.
- Soon, she was urging PepsiCo to reshape its brand identity and assets, and became influential in a number of important decisions. She was also a lead negotiator on the high-level deals that followed. The company decided to spin off its restaurant division in 1997

- Nooyi also took the lead in the acquisition of Tropicana in 1998,and the merger with Quaker Oats Company, which also brought Gatorade in 2001.
- For her impressive dealmaking talents, Nooyi was promoted to the job of chief financial officer at PepsiCo in February of 2000. It made her the highest-ranking Indian-born woman among the ranks of corporate America.

WOMEN POWER
- PepsiCo’s annual net profit rose from $2.7 billion to $6.5 billion. Nooyi was named on Wall Street Journal’s list of 50 women to watch in 2007 and 2008,and was listed among Time’s 100 Most Influential People in The World in 2007 and 2008.
- Forbes named her the #3 most powerful woman in 2008. In 2014, she was ranked #13 by Forbes.Fortune ranked her the #1 most powerful woman in business in 2009 and 2010.
- On 7 October 2010 Fortune magazine ranked her the 6th most powerful woman in the world. In Fortune’s Most Powerful Women List of 15 September 2015, Nooyi ranked 2nd.
LATER
- She moved corporate spending away from junk foods and into the healthier alternatives, with the aim of improving the healthiness of even the “fun” offerings.
- On 6 August 2018, PepsiCo Inc confirmed that Nooyi would step down as the CEO and Ramon Laguarta, a 22-year veteran of PepsiCo, would replace her on 3 October.
- However, Nooyi will continue to serve as the chairwoman of the company until early 2019. During her tenure, the company’s sales grew 80%. Nooyi served as CEO for 12 years, 7 years longer than the average CEO tenure at large companies according to an Equilar study
WEALTHY
- While CEO of PepsiCo in 2011, Nooyi earned $17 million, which included a base salary of $1.9 million, a cash bonus of $2.5 million, pension value and deferred remuneration of $3 million.
- By 2014, her total remuneration had grown to $19,087,832, including $5.5 million of equity
