ARTICLE 5
- Article 5 of the North Atlantic treaty, requiring member states to come to the aid of any member state subject to an armed attack, was invoked for the first and only time after the September 11 attacks, after which troops were deployed to Afghanistan under the NATO-led ISAF.

- Each Party declares that none of the international engagements now in force between it and any other of the Parties or any third State is in conflict with the provisions of this Treaty, and undertakes not to enter into any international engagement in conflict with this Treaty.

DIVIDE IN THE NATO
- China, Macron said, should not “be the object of our collective defence … in strictly military terms” for Nato.
- Other European countries like Italy, Greece and Hungary were also against targeting China as a military threat.
WHAT THIS MEANS
- NATO’s statements will add additional pressure on Europe to stay away from Chinese companies when It comes with 5 G technology
- It will make investment projects in Greece, Hungary a bit more difficult as they will be now accountable to NATO when they lease a part of their country to China
