- College of Military Engineering (CME) of Indian Army has developed the world’s ‘cheapest gunshot locator’
- It can identify the location of a bullet from a distance of 400 metres.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
- Parth’ gunshot locator device costs around Rs 3 lakhs and if inducted, would replace a similar imported item which costs around Rs 65 lakhs.

SIGNIFICANCE
- The development of these type of equipment are currently important for the Indian Army. These developments come at a time when the centre has abrogated Article 370.
- They are important to keep counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir Valley under control.
MAJOR ANOOP MISHRA
- The Indian Army major has developed the world’s first bulletproof helmet. Major Anoop Mishra, said, “The helmet can stop an AK-47 bullet from a distance of 10 meters.
- ” He has also displayed India’s first and world’s cheapest gunshot locator, “The gunshot locator can locate bullet from a distance of 400 meters,” he said.
- It will help to locate and neutralise terrorists faster. The officer is a part of the Indian Army’s College of Military Engineering.
CME
The College of Military Engineering (CME) at Pune, a premier tactical & Technical training institution is the alma mater of the Corps of Engineers. CME is responsible for training of personnel of the Corps of Engineers besides imparting instructions in Combat Engineering, CBRN Protection, Works Services and GIS matters to the personnel of All Arms & Services.
