India’s Requirement
- Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) Executive Director Ashok Kumar Madan said: “India needs around 24 million tablets per year as on date for the three diseases — malaria, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis”.
Production capacity
- The country has a production capacity of 40 tonnes of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) every month
- It means India can produce 20 crore tablets of 200 mg each
- “Production is going on in full swing. We have a capacity to make 20 crore (200 million) tablets in a month, Indian Drug manufacturers Association secretay general Daara B. Patel Said in an interview, Adding that india is self sufficient in both final products and raw materials for the drug.
- A win-win situation for India On one hand India is giving a push to its pharma industry while maintaining adequate domestic supply and on the other hand by sending HCQ to other countries improving its global image.
