What is Geographical Indication Tag?
- Geographical Indication is a name or a sign given to certain products that relate to a specific geographical location or origins like a region, town or country.
- GI Tag ensures that none other than those registered as authorized users are allowed to use the popular product name.

Kashmiri Saffron
- Cultivated and harvested in the Karewa (highlands) in some regions of Kashmir, including Pulwama, Budgam, Kishtwar and Srinagar.
- Saffron cultivation is believed to have been introduced in Kashmir in around 1st Century BCE.
- It is the only saffron in the world grown at an altitude of 1,600 m to 1,800 m AMSL
- Its stigmas just separated from the flowers and dried without further processing. Mongra Saffron

- It same as Lachha, except that the latter’s driedstigmas are packed loosely in air-tight containers
