Panna Biosphere Reserve

  • Panna National Park in Madhya Pradesh (Panna & Chhatarpur districts) has been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a site that will serve as a lab to test innovative approaches to eco-conservation and sustainability.
  • The Panna Tiger Reserve spans 1,5981.sq km, with a 576km Core area.
  • The Panna ‘National Park’ was initially set up in 1981
  • It was declared a tiger reserve in 1993 under Project Tiger.

  • From 40 tigers in 2001 to 0 In 2009 (except 2 tigress) to 52 in 2020
  • Tiger Reintroduction Project, Tigers re-located here from Bandhavgarh National Park and Kanha National Park in March 2009.
  • Thanks to the efforts of dedicated officials and conservationists, tiger population made a strong comeback. In just 10 years, the tiger count at Panna went up to 52

Panna Biosphere Reserve

  • Home to Panna National Park and Ken Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary
  • The reserve is home to the tiger, leopard, chital, chinkara, nilgai, sambhar and sloth bear.
  • It lies within narrow belt of table top mountains of ‘Vindhyan Hill Ranges’ and part of ‘Bundelkhand’ region.
  • Home to Gond tribe

Panna Biosphere Reserve

  • It is affected by Ken-Betwa river linking project.
  • Ken River runs northeast for about 72 km through the park.
