The Karnataka state government will purchase 640 electric vehicles under the Central government’s FAME India subsidized scheme Karnataka received approval from the Department of Heavy Industries to purchase the electric vehicles under the National Electricity Mobility Mission of the Central government’s Fame India scheme.
Of the total electric vehicles, 40 will be buses, 100 cars and 500 threewheelers.

The Department is giving subsidy up to 60% under the scheme with funds to set up infrastructure to charge the vehicles across Bengaluru. The electric vehicles will be operated by the state-run transport corporation. The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME) India scheme was launched in 2015 to promote eco-friendly vehicles
across the country by providing fiscal and monetary incentives for adoption and market creation of both hybrid and electric technologies vehicles.
The scheme incentivises all vehicle segments, including two-wheeler, three- wheeler auto, four-wheeler vehicles, light commercial vehicles and buses. It also covers hybrid and electric technologies like a strong hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.
Phase I of the FAME-India Scheme was launched for a two-year period between April 1, 2015, and March 31, 2017, at an approved outlay of Rs 795 crore. The scheme was subsequently extended for six months till September 30, 2017 and then again till March 31, 2018.
the FAME India Scheme is further extended for a further period of six months i.e. up to 30th September 2018 the Karnataka government in September 2017 approved the state’s Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy 2017.
The initiative is in line with the union government’s vision to make the country an all-electric vehicle market by 2031.

Asian Development Bank (ADB) will fund highway up gradation project in Karnataka for which it has approved a loan of USD 346 million to improve 419 km of state highways by upgrading them to two and four-lane with paved shoulders.
The project will see construction of planned pedestrian, installation of women-friendly elements including bus shelters, marked crossings, footpaths and proper signage, among others.
Total cost of the project is USD 655 million. Of this, the state government will provide USD 202 million and the private sector will invest an estimated USD 107 million through hybrid annuity
