Is make in India a success ?

The % of the manufacturing industry in India’s GDP has come down to 15 percent in 2017, according to World Bank data. The manufacturing industry in India had a 17.4 percent in country’s overall GDP in 2006. However, when the scheme was launched in September 2014, the share of manufacturing in GDP did rise marginally from 15.06 percent in 2014 to 15.4 percent in 2015 but has continuously been falling since then.

% of women in Indian workforce ?

India’s labour market is the second largest in the world, after China, with a working age population of about 520 million people. In a recent study, the World Bank noted that over 21 million Indian women dropped out of the rural workforce between 2005 and 2012. On the other hand, only two million Indian women joined the urban workforce.

Recent labour data from a government survey dated 2015-16 reveals that women comprise only 16.2 percent of all urban workers and 26.7 percent of all rural workers. In 1972-73, Indian women comprised 13.4 percent of all urban workers and 31.8 percent of all rural workers.

3. The Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 provides women in the organized sector paid maternity leave of 26 weeks, up from 12 weeks
