LOCATION OF THE AIRSTRIP
- The 3.3 km stretch of the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Bangarmau in Unnao district, have been kept war ready for an emergency situation under which top-of-the-line fighter jets of Indian Air Force (IAF) can use them as alternative bases for take-off and landing.
AT THE SAME TIME…
- Kudebhar village under Jaisinghpur tehsil has been identified as the stretch for the ultra-modern airstrip on the Purvanchal Expressway.
- With the completion of the construction of the 3,300-metre-long airstrip near Kurebhar on Purvanchal Expressway,
- UP has become the first state in the country with two airstrips on expressways to facilitate emergency landing and takeoff of fighter planes.
- Awanish Kumar Awasthi, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh said, “The construction of Purvanchal Expressway being completed rapidly. The construction of the 3,300- metre-long airstrip near Kurebhar on the expressway has been completed. All categories of aircraft can land on this airstrip. The Indian Air Force is likely to test the airstrip soon.”
- Aircraft like Mirage 2000, Jaguar, Sukhoi 30 and Super Hercules had already landed on Lucknow-Agra Expressway.
UTILITY OF SUCH AIRSTRIPS
- Airstrips on expressways are designed to facilitate emergency landing and take-off of fighter planes.
- Also, these airstrips of Uttar Pradesh can serve the Air Force to respond against China and Pakistan in case of any war.
AGRA LUCKNOW EXPRESSWAY
- The Agra Lucknow Expressway is a 302 km 6-lane (extendable to 8- lanes) high speed, access controlled expressway constructed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority to reduce traffic in already congested roads and to reduce pollution and carbon footprint.
- It is the longest expressway in India
PURVANCHAL EXPRESSWAY
- The expressway will connect Ghazipur town with Lucknow.
- It will be about 340.824 km long.
- It is still under construction. As on Jan 2021, 85% is completed.
