Black Guava Developed By Bihar Agricultural University – Free PDF Download

  • For the first time, production of black guava has started in Bhagalpur. This unique variety of guava, developed at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), has caught the attention of the people. According to researchers, people will like it due to its anti-aging factor and disease resistance being more than normal fruits. This special variety of black guava with red pulp inside is claimed to be rich in antioxidants, minerals and vitamins.

  • Black Guava has been developed at Bihar Agricultural University with scientific research for more than three years. After some improvement in its size, aroma, it is likely to be launched for commercial cultivation soon. However, this type of guava is not being used commercially in the country. Dr. M. Faiza Ahmed, co-director of Bihar Agricultural University Research (Research), Bhagalpur, told that this guava was planted two-three years ago, in which fruits have started coming. It has been developed after scientific research.

Uniqueness of this variety

  • This variety of guava is rich in antioxidants. 100 grams of guava contains about 250 milligrams of vitamin-C, vitamin-A and B, calcium and iron besides other multivitamins and minerals. 
  • It also contains some amount of protein and other beneficial elements. This fruit will have an effect on the ‘antiaging’ of the people. This guava will be fully ripe by the end of August or by September.
  • There is a need for promotion of this guava, because the climate and soil here is suitable for this guava.
    After the commercial use of this guava, farmers will also get its benefit. This is the reason why BAU has now started researching how to use this plant by common farmers.
  • The newly developed black guava has also attracted the attention of medical professionals and in view of this further research is needed. Being rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, these fruits can be helpful in combating many diseases.
