What is the ‘Blue whale game’?

 A lethal game that involves brainwashing vulnerable teenagers over a period of 50
days, urging them to complete tasks ranging from watching horror movies to inflicting self harm.
 Eventually exhausted and confused, they are told to commit suicide

Where did it start? Who runs it?

• Philipp Buddeikin
• Russian Psychology student
• 2013
• VKontakte
• He thinks of his victims as ‘biological waste’ and told police that they were ‘happy to die’ and he was ‘cleansing society’
• 80 to 130 children committed suicide in Russia between November 2015 and April
2016,allegedly due to the game
• Buddeikin was arrested in November 2016 He has now confessed to the crimes.

Is it an app or website or game?
No!

• Buddeikin and later other curators and copy cats attracted teenagers by posting scary
pictures or videos on various groups and platforms
• Then selected few of them (targets) to join closed groups, where the tasks were given.

• Carve a whale with a razor on your hand
• Don’t speak to anyone for an entire day
• Talk to other ‘whales’ on Skype
• Listen to depressing music sent by admin/curators
• Climb on a crane
• Day 50 – commit suicide
