Bro-Sis Bond in Independence Struggle Explained Through Examples

Just after celebrating Independence Day 2023, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and Har Ghar Triranga Camping India are ready to celebrate Raksha Bandhan and celebrate the purest relationship across India. In this Raksha Bandhan let us remember the Brother-Sister or siblings who have contributed together to the Freedom Struggle and added one more milestone in India’s Freedom Struggle.

Jawaharlal Nehru and Vijaya Laxmi Pandit

The brother-sister team, who were well-known for their competent leadership, worked arduously for Indian Independence. They were regarded as the finest leaders of democratic India and joined the liberation war when they were quite young.

Both Nehru and his sister Vijaya Laxmi had the responsibility of carrying on their father Motilal Nehru’s legacy. Nehru was the country’s first prime minister upon its independence, and Vijaya Laxmi was the first Indian woman to serve in the cabinet. They increased the stakes for the following generation of leaders because they were praised widely for their governance style.

Both upheld the family tradition and served as the Nehru-Gandhi family’s cornerstone. Throughout the fight for independence, they both helped one another out and participated in a number of marches and rallies. The spectators enjoyed seeing the brother and sister perform simultaneously. Together, they influenced India’s growth.

Santhal Rebellion: Sidhu, Kanhu, Phulo and Jhano

In the most fervent years leading up to the Revolt of 1857, the Santhal Hul, a movement of over 60,000 Santhals that took place from 1855 to 1857 but began as early as 1784, was particularly led by siblings – brothers Sidhu, Kanhu, Chand, and Bhairav, and their sisters Phulo and Jhano from the Murmu clan. Following more than a century of similar growing uprisings, Birsa Munda led a sizable, influential millenarian movement in Eastern India that once more upended British power in the area.

Thousands of members of the Munda, Oraon, and Kharia communities joined Birsa Munda in “Ulgulaan” (revolt) against those who promoted British political expansion, against the forcible conversion of Indigenous peoples to Christianity (even starting the Birsaite movement), and against the eviction of Indigenous peoples from their lands. Birsa Munda was a member of the Munda community. You can check all about the Santhal Rebellion in detail.

When is Raksha Bandhan in 2023?

On the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana, the beloved Indian holiday of Raksha Bandhan—which honours the tie between siblings—occurs. The Hindu lunisolar calendar establishes the day of Raksha Bandhan. It is observed on the day of the full moon in the month of Shravan. Raksha Bandhan will be observed on August 30 or August 31, 2023, depending on the year. Raksha Bandhan this year falls on August 30. Purnima Tithi Begins on August 30 at 10:58 AM and ends at 7:05 AM, according to the Drik Panchang.

Beyond its customs and ceremonies, Raksha Bandhan represents the unity of connections, the assurance of safety, and the joy of sibling love. Its core remains the same, even as it changes to reflect the times: a day to celebrate and honour the special link shared by brothers and sisters. Raksha Bandhan will once more underline the beauty of these cherished ties on August 30 or August 31, 2023, as the sacred thread is tied and pledges are exchanged.
