- Central Excise Inspector-This post falls under Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC)It deals with the tasks of formulation of policy concerning levy and collection of Customs & Central Excise duties, administration of matters related to Customs and Central Excise and service tax.
The Board is the administrative authority for its subordinate organizations, including Custom Houses, Central Excise and Service Tax Commission rates and the Central Revenues Control Laboratory.
Desk Job– You will be assigned to filing paperwork and cross-checking documents for validation, assessment of goods and services tax is done by excise inspector and report is submitted to Superintendent. Works on the registration request by manufacturers, verifications of their units.
Field Job– Monitoring the goods which need to be exported and put the seal of excise department on them, prevention of smuggling. You will also assist search and raid teams.
- Examiner-This is a very popular post offered by SSC CGL. The cut-off remains very high for this post because of its valuable work in CBEC. He has the power to examine goods, power to take sample, examine cargo etc.
- Preventive Officer– they perform normal file work, noting and drafting maintaining and monitoring files, report making etc.
Educational Qualifications for CBEC-
- Candidate must have graduation degree from a recognized university or equivalent.
- Age limit for applying is 20-30 years.

- Pay Scale: Rs. 9,300 – 34,800/-
- Grade Pay: Rs. 4,600/-
- Initial Pay: Rs. 9,300/-
- Total Pay: Rs. 13,900/-

Working Hours-
As a Central Excise Inspector, you will have a proper work schedule. Regular from 9 am to 5 pm, no extra work hours and working in shifts. Sometimes you have to work for longer durations at the time of urgency.
Your job, however, might have a few extra hours while you are posted in the field, conducting a raid or a security check.
