About Crime Multi Agency Centre
- Crime Multi Agency Centre (Cri-MAC) was launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) with an objective of sharing information on crime and
- The information in Crime Multi Agency Centre is shared with various law enforcement agencies and ensure a seamless flow of information among them.
- The platform is run by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and aims to help in early detection and prevention of crime incidents across the country.
- Nature of alert: Shared alerts include information on release of a hardened criminal from jail or an incident of terror, murder, dacoity among others.
- Participation of states and UTs:
- West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim and Union Territory of Dadra, Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have not uploaded a single alert on Cri-Mac since the portal.
- Delhi, Assam and Haryana shared maximum number of alerts on the portal.
Significance of Crime Multi Agency Centre
- Information dissemination: Crime Multi Agency Centre (Cri-MAC) shares information about significant crimes on real-time basis and enables inter-State coordination.
- This helps in locating and identifying victims and also in prevention, detection and investigation of crime.
- Human trafficking incidents: Human trafficking is a grave crime and needs continuous update to prevent incidents.
- TheCrime Multi Agency Centre portal will help in interstate coordination to nab criminals involved in trafficking.
National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)
- NCRB was set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Home Affairs to function as a repository of information on crime and criminals in order to assist the investigators in linking crime to the perpetrators.
- It was constituted based on the recommendations of the National Police Commission (1977-1981) and the MHA’s Task Force (1985).
- Functions:
- Maintain database: It maintains National Database of Sexual Offenders (NDSO) and shares it with the States/UTs on regular basis.
- Cyber reporting: NCRB has been designated as the Central Nodal Agency to manage technical and operational functions of the ‘Online Cyber-Crime Reporting Portal’.
- The portal can be used by any citizen can lodge a complaint or upload a video clip as an evidence of crime related to pornography.
- Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS): The NCRB implements the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS).
- ICJS is a national platform that integrates the main IT system used for delivery of Criminal Justice in the country.
