Dadasaheb Phalke Award History
It took Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, who is regarded as the founder of Indian film, as its name source. He was a seasoned director who produced Raja Harishchandra, the country’s first feature-length motion picture, in 1913. The honorees receive a shawl, a medallion known as the Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), and a monetary prize of Rs. 10 lahks.
Among the notable honorees are well-known figures like Satyajit Ray, Nagi Reddy, Raj Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Dilip Kumar, Sivaji Ganesan, and Asha Bhosle. On October 25, 2021, a well-known actor, producer, and screenwriter named Rajnikanth received the award for the year 2019 in recognition of his enduring and regal contributions to Indian cinema. The actor has previously received the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards (2016). 52 recipients have received awards as of 2022. Due to the coronavirus, awards were postponed for the years 2020 and 2021.
Two years after the Covid-19 pandemic ended the famous event, President Droupadi Murmu and Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur will present the 68th national film awards on September 30, 2022, in keeping with the more than 60-year-old tradition. The Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2020 has been given to veteran actress Asha Parekh, making her the 52nd recipient of the honour.
