MEA-

• Sushma Swaraj has said the government is making
arrangements to bring back the mortal remains of the 39
Indian workers.
• Killed in Mosul in Iraq.
• They were missing since 2014
•Indian Embassy has been directed to make all
arrangements to bring the bodies as early as possible.

Rising India Summit

• Government has succeeded in taking bold steps and executed them due to the support and inspiration of the citizens.
• There has been tremendous support to its efforts to curb black money and fight against corruption.
• Mr Modi said, at present, the citizens lead and the government follows.
• The Prime Minister said, in his opinion, rising India means soaring the confidence of 125 crore people of the country.
Rising India Summit-
• The three-day annual Krishi Unnati Mela began in New Delhi.
• Focus : doubling farmers’ income
•Objective : create awareness among farmers about the latest agriculture-related technological developments.
• Radha Mohan Singh said, government is committed to the welfare of farmers and strengthening the rural livelihood.
• Bodies of the Indian workers had been identified after matching their DNA.
•Government never kept the families of murdered Indians in dark.
• V K Singh will go to Iraq to bring back the mortal remains of the Indians killed.

Human Resource Development-

• Prakash Javadekar today announced that sixty-two higher education institution have been granted autonomy by the University Grant Commission.
• The Minister said, autonomy was given to these institution, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards liberalised regulatory regime.
• Quality the NAAC ranking of 3.26 and above was the benchmark and so these are the 60 institutes under which five are central universities then 21 are states universities 24 are
deemed to be universities and 2 are the private universities.

Central Board of Excise and Custom

• The government today scrapped export duty of raw and refined sugar to boost exports.
•It has been decided to reduce export duty on raw sugar, white or refined sugar from 20 per cent to Nil.
• The sugar output of India is estimated to rise sharply to 29.5 million tonnes in the 2017-18 marketing year from
20.3 million tonnes in the previous year.
• Earlier, the government had doubled import duty on sugar to 100 per cent to check imports.

PMO-

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a call to Chinese President Xi Jinping and congratulated him on his reelection.
• Agreed that as two major powers growing rapidly, bilateral relations between India and China are vital for the realization of 21st Century as Asian Century.
• The two leaders also agreed to continue their close consultations on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

United Nations

•United Nations has called on Turkey to end a state of emergency imposed after a 2016 failed coup attempt.
•UN said it has led to profound human rights violations.
•UN said the state of emergency has paved the way to arbitrary detentions and dismissals, infringements on the rights to freedom of association and expression and torture and ill-treatment.
• Tens of thousands of people have been arrested and over one lakh 10 thousand dismissed from public sector jobs.

Vice President’s Secretariat

• The Vice President of India, Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that it is important for the Officers to learn local languages as it helps in improving efficiency and communicate better
with locals.
• Be proficient in your mother tongue and learn as many languages as possible.
•Do not be against any language, he added.
• Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was instrumental in unifying India and created services like IAS, IPS to promote unity and integrity of the country.
• Shri Ananthkumar announced that the Government of India has approved the setting up of a Plastic Park in Deoghar District, Jharkhand
• The project would be set up at a cost of Rs. 120 crores in an area of 150 acres and a range of polymer products including woven sacks, moulded furniture, water tanks, bottles, pipes mosquito nets, etc would be manufactured.

Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers
•It has great potential for attracting investment for setting up an ecosystem for plastic industry and generate employment opportunities for the local populace, the Minister informed.
• The project is likely to provide direct employment generation to about 6000 p
• Shri Ananthkumar also announced the setting up of Rs. 3.5 crore Plastic Recycling unit at Deoghar to tackle the menace of plastic waste being generated due to the
place being a tourist attraction.
•Deoghar receives over 5 crore tourists per year, leading to generation of a lot of plastic waste.
• This waste needs to be recycled scientifically to contain the plastic waste generation and ensure sustainable development, hence the plastic recycling unit would be of huge importance, the Minister informed.

• Karnataka police failed to convict Sri Ram Sene leader Pramod Muthalik and his followers.
• Witnesses steadily turn hostile in a series of CBI cases on encounter killings.

• A key testimony of a principal accused in the Mecca Masjid blast case goes missing from court records.
• If we want to change this situation then the investigating and prosecuting arm of the government must be recast  as an independent and professional agency that reports
to the executive but is accountable to a committee of the legislature, besides to the Human Rights Commission.

• CBI is staffed by members of the Indian Police Service • A posting to the Centre is a coveted one and to secure which officers seek to ingratiate themselves with the state’s ruling dispensation.
• CBI must recruit and train its personnel independently.
• All interstate and international crimes should  automatically go CBI.

• States can decide which of the cases falling in their jurisdiction should go to the CBI.
• Clear mandates will help minimise tampering with evidence and witnesses.
• State level investigation agencies must be unleased.
