West Bengal Governor
• West Bengal Governor KN Tripathi today held an hourlong meeting with senior police and administration officials in Asansol and took stock of the situation in violence-hit areas of Raniganj and Asansol.
• The Governor also visited the violence-hit areas later in the day.
•One person was killed and two police officers suffered serious injuries on Monday when clashes broke out between two groups over a Ram Navami procession in Raniganj area of Bardhaman West district.
• The violence fanned out to Asansol areas, prompting police to suspend Internet services and clamp prohibitory orders under Section 144 in trouble-torn areas of the district.
• Prohibitory orders are still in force as the situation in Asansol is tense.
•No fresh incident of violence has been reported from the area during the past three days.
• A huge contingent of the police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) is patrolling the area.

• M. Venkaiah Naidu was interacting with Agriculture researchers of ICAR in Hyderabad
•Naidu has said, the combined efforts to improve productivity, strengthen allied sectors and better market interventions like e-NAM will help doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
•Quoting a study by agricultural education institute MANAGE he stressed on the need for strengthening backyard poultry and dairy to supplement income to prevent distress situations for the farming community.

• All scientists from about a dozen ICAR institutes like Indian Institute of Rice Research, Millet Research, Institute of Poultry, Meat institute and senior scientists from Universities like Prof Jai Shankar Telangana Agriculture University have participated in the interaction.
• Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has focused mainly on possible changes in the present systems which can augment farmers’ income.
• Interestingly, senior scientists like EA Siddique and SVS Sharma came up with a range of suggestions right from increasing productivity to better market interventions for farm produce.

• In how much time period will you need to appoint a Lokayukt in you State/UT?

• Lokpal and Lokayukt act was passed in the Parliament by consensus
• Passed 4 years ago
• Implementation deadline was 1 year after the passage of law.
• Many states have not appointed Lokayukts and many have not yet passed the act from their State Legislative Assembiles.

• It has so far given this excuse that there is no Leader of
Opposition in current Lok Sabha.
• It could have easily taken on board Leader of Largest Party in
Opposition for Select Committee.
• Now when SC has pushed it, it has agreed to take LoLPiO
• Sad scenario
• The States where we have Lokayukts are not different from the
States that don’t have one.
• Lokayukts still don’t have independent investigation agency.
• They have to relay on State Government for investigation teams
and agencies.
• Their resources and powers are limited.
• States who introduced such Corruption Watch Dog system
designed laws as per their requirements.
• How keen our government is to create a corruption free India can
be estimated by this attitude of our Central as well as State
Governments.
