Daily PIB Analysis For UPSC/IAS/Civil Services – 13th March 2018

President

• President Ram Nath Kovind today said India and Mauritius have the common heritage of multi cultures living together in peace and harmony.
• President inaugurated of World Hindi Secretariat Headquarters in Port Louis.
• He said Indian diaspora in Mauritius has played a huge role in the spread of Hindi.
• Mr Kovind added that unity in diversity is the cultural identity of both nations and we need to take this message of brotherhood around the world.

Prime Minister’s Office and Home Ministry

• The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has saluted the
brave CRPF personnel who were martyred in the attack in
Sukma, Chhattisgarh.
• “India salutes the brave CRPF personnel who were martyred in the attack in Sukma, Chhattisgarh. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the brave martyrs. The nation
stands shoulder to shoulder with them in this hour of grief”, the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister’s Office and Home Ministry –
•In Chhattisgarh, nine personnel of Central Reserve Police Force- CRPF including two ASI were martyred and two security personnel injured in a Maoist attack in Sukma district today.
• A team of CRPF’s 212 battalion was on a patrolling in Kistaram area of Sukma district today morning.
• Maoists ambushed the team when it was on the way to Kistaram to Palodi.

• Maoists first triggered an IED blast and blew up the Anti landmine vehicle,
• Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed grief over the loss of lives of police personnel in Sukma blast.
• Mr Singh said, he has asked the Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir to reach Chhattisgarh in the wake of naxal
attack.
• He asked Director General of CRPF to leave for Chhattisgarh.
• He bowed to each and every security personnel who attained martyrdom while serving the nation. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured jawans.

•Delhi End-TB Summit
• Mr. Modi launched the TB-free India Campaign to take the activities under the National Strategic Plan forward in a mission mode to end the epidemic.
• Launched a campaign to eradicate Tuberculosis (TB) from India by 2025, five years ahead of a globally-set deadline.
Prime Minister’s Office –
• TB was declared emergency by WHO 25 years ago and India has come a long way in the fight against Tuberculosis.
• He said, it is important to get rid of Tuberculosis within the stipulated time period.
• Mr Modi said, new initiatives have been taken to eliminate the disease and budget allocation has been increased.
• The Prime Minister said, State Governments have a major role to play in elimination of TB from the country

Reserve Bank of India

• Discontinued Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) and Letters of Comfort (LoCs) for Trade Credits.
• The RBI, in a circular, said it has been decided to discontinue the practice of issuance of LoUs/ LoCs for Trade Credits for imports into India by AD Category -I banks with immediate effect.
• The circular added that the Letters of Credit will be continued to be issued subject to compliance with the provisions contained in Department of Banking Regulation Master Circular on ‘Guarantees and Co-acceptances’ dated July 1, 2015.

AYUSH

•Government has marginally increased the budget allocation for NAM. Total budget allocation for the year 2018-19 is Rs. 504.43 Crores and it was Rs. 490.50 Crores in 2017-18 at Revised Estimate (RE) stage.
• The detailed objectives of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) are as follows:
• To provide cost effective AYUSH Services, with a universal access through upgrading AYUSH Hospitals and Dispensaries, co-location of AYUSH facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals (DHs).
AYUSH
• To strengthen institutional capacity at the state level through upgrading AYUSH educational institutions, State Government Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy (ASU&H) Pharmacies, ASU & H Drug Testing Laboratories and enforcement mechanism.
• Support cultivation of medicinal plants by adopting Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) so as to provide sustained supply of quality raw-materials and support certification mechanism for quality standards, Good Agricultural/Collection/Storage Practices.
• Support setting up of clusters through convergence of cultivation, warehousing, value addition, marketing and development of infrastructure for entrepreneurs.

• Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has signed Project Collaboration Agreement (PCA) with WHO , Headquarter, Geneva for collaboration activities, including long term collaboration with WHO in the area of Traditional Medicine

Ministry of Women and Child Development

• The Executive Committee which is the Apex body for all Nutrition related activities under the POSHAN Abhiyaan, held its first meeting today to decide on the roadmap for the Mission.
• The Committee is headed by Sh. Rakesh Srivastava, Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development.
• The Committee, inter alia, has taken the following decisions:
Ministry of Women and Child Development –
1. India Nutrition Report shall be released every year by the Government after a detailed survey.
2. On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti(14th April) this year, Gram Panchayats across the country will hold meetings to discuss on the Nutritional aspects and their implementation along with Health and Sanitation issues. All the Gram Panchayats will be advised to weigh the children and display the weights in the Anganwadi centres
3. Instead of blindly adopting the Nutritional practices of other countries, best practices of states across the country which are successful in reducing Stunting, Anaemia and Malnutrition are to be studied and successful models to be adopted at National level.
4. For special focus on the deprived sections of the Society, District Collectors will hold a detailed survey of the people who are outside the Anganwadi System.
