Ministry of Culture
• The International Conference on ‘Demetrios Galanos and His Legacy’ was inaugurated at IGNCA in New Delhi today.
• Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) is organizing the 8- days International Conference on, ‘Demetrios Galanos and His Legacy’.
• The 8-day long convention is being held in Delhi and Varanasi, in addition to organizing the exhibition and folk music of Greece.
• IGNCA Trustee Shri Bharat Gupt said that “Demetrios Galanos (1760–1833) has a special place among the foreign scholars who came to India to study in the nineteenth century
• He was the only one who stayed in India for 47 years, and except for the first seven years when he lived in Calcutta, for 40 years he lived in the city of Varanasi.
• He translated the Bhagvad Gita into Greek among many other Sanskrit texts.
• His major contribution was the compilation of a Sanskrit-English-Greek lexicon of about 9000 words.”
• For the last one and a half year we have started a new project called ‘Bharat Vidya Prayojana’ and we are trying to reconceive Indology from Bharat perspective. Bharat Vidya Prayojana is the principle host of this conference.”

• It was 1700 hrs and in the helicopter unit based at Jammu, nicknamed “Condors”, Wing Commander Vishal Jain and Squadron Leader Soumya Das were mentally wrapping up the days’ work in the process of “packup” for the weekend.
• Little did they know that they would soon be playing saviour angels for people involved in a gruesome bus accident.
• Twenty six years old Ishaq and twenty five years old Farooq along with others were travelling in a bus when the driver lost control and the bus fell in a ditch near Budhal about 30 km from Rajouri.
• The nearest Airforce Station at Jammu was alerted and an immediate sortie for casualty evacuation was planned.
• Wing Commander Vishal during the sortie planning process found that the helipad at Budhal was too small and unfit for the Russian Mi-17 1V helicopters he flies.
• He suggested that the casualties be brought to Rajouri by road as soon as possible and the air evacuation could be effected from Rajouri.
• The plan was agreed upon and the captain with his team took off for Rajouri helipad, a bigger and better equipped helipad, at close to 1740 hrs. With light fading time was of utmost importance.
• Upon landing at Rajouri at 1845 hrs the crew had to wait for the casualties to be brought to Rajouri by road. Some casualties expired during the journey. “If I had any slim chance of landing the bird at Budhal, I would have taken it.
• I would have been able to save a few more people” rued the captain. The helicopter with casualties and their near and dear ones took off from Rajouri helipad and landed at Jammu at 2140 hrs.
• Professionalism, dedication and devotion to duty and the zeal to perform beyond the call of duty by the aircrew of “Condors” saved lives especially of critically injured Ishaq and Farooq, who were shifted to a hospital at Jammu, where they are receiving medical care.

• Students now will be able to refer to the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s advice on how to tackle exam challenges in his book, ‘Exam Warriors’.
Finance Ministry
• Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has termed micro and small enterprises sector as the backbone of the economy, saying the sector will lead its current consolidation phase.
• Launching CriSidEx, the first sentiment index for MSEs in New Delhi today, Mr Jaitley said, with a number of steps taken, there is an increased integration of the sector into the formal economy.
“Micro and small enterprises sector is almost a backbone of the economy in itself. This is one sector where people not only exhibit their entrepreneurial Skills, become part of large value chain, but then also become job creators in the process. And thats the reasons why a bulk of jobs in manufacturing trading has been create in this particular sector.”

• The Prime Minister said, the government is restructuring the National amboo Mission with an amount of 1300 crore rupees.
• This will benefit the people of the North-East, especially farmers of the region.

Petroleum Minister
• Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that a 1500-kilometre gas pipeline will be laid at an estimated cost of 6000 crore rupees stretching from Guwahati to Tinsukia via Numaligarh to supply gas to the North East states.
• He said, five major oil and natural gas PSUs – ONGC, Oil India Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, Numaligarh Refinery Limited and GAIL – will set up a joint company for this.
• Global Investors Summit ‘Advantage Assam’ in Guwahati today, the Minister said that earlier, the people of Assam complained that the benefit of oil and gas found in the state did not reach them.
• He said, the Centre has decided to change the scenario with the
cooperation of the state government.
