Vice President’s Secretariat

• The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that destiny of the nation is charted by its youth.
• He was addressing the National Conference on Jobs & Livelihood Creation – Critical Growth Enablers, organized by the NITI Aayog and the CII, here today.
• The Vice President said that there is a need to create appropriate opportunities to harness youth potential.

• Good education,
• Training in tune with industry requirements, S
• Social safety net,
• Health facilities
• Buoyant labour market are crucial for individual’s gainful employment.

• India’s demographic advantage is an opportunity to access gainful employment through appropriate skilling not just to meet the domestic requirements but also the requirements of the aging economies of the world, he added.
• The Vice President said education is an important way to empower people socially, economically, politically, and culturally.
• He further said that education is the first critical growth enabler – a prerequisite for enhanced livelihood opportunities and acquisition of knowledge, enhancement of skills and development of attitudes and values.
• Education is not only for getting employment, but also for the overall development of an individual, he added.

Department of Atomic Energy

• The delays in the completion of Kudankulam Units – 1&2 (2X1000 MW) were mainly due to delays in sequential receipts of equipment from Russian Federation and subsequent local protests at the site.
• The domino effect of the protests, demobilisation & subsequent remobilisation of resources, various litigations, complying with the directives of the Honorable Court before commissioning of the plant took time.
• In addition, being the first-of-a-kind reactor in India of large unit size and with many imported equipments/components, the reviews and regulatory clearances also took time.
• Presently, both the units are in commercial operation and are operating at their rated capacity.
• They have cumulatively generated about 23122 Million Units of electricity as on January 29, 2018.

Department of Atomic Energy

• An agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Canada for Cooperation in Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy was signed on 27.06.2010.
• During the visit of Prime Minister to Canada on 15.04.2015, Government of India entered into an agreement with M/s CAMECO Inc., Canada for supply of Uranium Ore Concentrate during the period 2015-2020.
• Nuclear technologies are being developed and applied in the areas of health, including cancer care; agriculture; food preservation; waste management apart from generation of power.

Prime Minister Office

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a four-day visit to Palestine, the UAE and Oman tomorrow.
• During the visit, Mr Modi will meet the leadership of these West Asian nations and hold discussions on matters of mutual interest.
• External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, the aim will be to broad-base India’s engagement with these countries and focus on areas like defence and security, trade and investment.
• On the first leg, Mr Modi will have a stopover at Jordanian capital, Amman tomorrow night from where he will reach Ramallah on Saturday morning, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Palestine.
• He will hold delegation-level talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas after which a number of MoUs are expected to be signed.
• India’s Representative to Palestine, Anish Rajan termed Mr. Modi’s visit as historic and said, it will help in bolstering the bilateral relations between the two countries.

“This visit is historic because it’s first time that an Indian Prime Minister is visiting Palestine in 70 years, and you know this visit is expected to a open new chapter in our bilateral relations and ticket to the next level and Prime Minister visits are always helps us to have new vision, have fresh impetus and new momentum into our bilateral relations.”

• The same day, Mr Modi will travel to Dubai where he will address the 6th World Government Summit, at which India has been extended ‘guest of honour’ status.
• He will also hold talks with the President of UAE, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al-Maktoum.
• On the final leg of his visit, Mr Modi will attend an Indian community event in a stadium at Muscat in Oman on Sunday.
• He will meet Deputy Prime Ministers Fahd bin Mahmoud al-Said and Sayyid Asaad, the next day before returning home.
