President

• Shri Ram Nath Kovind, presented the Nari Shakti Puraskar at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
•Discriminating between men and women is essentially a problem of mindsets in society.
• To ensure composite development of the country, it is necessary to remove such descrimination.
President-
• Every person in society is responsible for changing such mindsets.
• We should listen to voices of our daughters and provide them all opportunities to make the most of their lives.
• We should change customs and traditions that hinder giving equal rights to our daughters.
• The President said that awareness and education are effective tools to overcome gender inequality. Education provides the power and understanding to eradicat distinctions between people in society.
• Met survivors of human trafficking
•He also launched a skills training programme for the
young survivors, organised by an NGO, Justice and Care.
• President said that human trafficking is a social evil.
•It is not a common crime but a crime against humanity.
• The entire society must unite for its eradication

• As the name implies, is dedicated to celebratin womanhood.
International Women’s Day-
• The day also emphasises the importance of gender equality.
• On this day, people from all across the world come together to partake in the celebration of womanhood.
• Before the UN adopted it in 1977, the day was mostly celebrated in socialist and Communist countries.
• The day was initially celebrated as International Working Women’s Day and the earliest celebration is believed to beheld at a socialist-political event in New York City in 1909.

• A disabled woman gang-raped in a small UP town committed suicide after months of futile waiting forjustice.
• A Pune woman was raped on the roadside after her male friend was shot dead.
• The more the news scanned, the more such reports
• One part of the reason for the fall in women’s work
participation is that more young women are staying back in
education.
• Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which encourages retention of postpubescent
girls in the school system.
• Menstrual hygiene is increasingly not a dirty term.
• India’s rise from the 150th nation in mobile data consumption
to the first in a span of two years allows women achievers in
diverse areas, ranging from sports to entrepreneurship, to
become role models for young girls across the country, stirring
ambition and aspiration
Optimism
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon state
governments to make Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao
programme a mass movement and a social mission.
• Mr Modi said, mistakes committed by generations against
the girl child have resulted in imbalance in society,
which needs to be corrected by new generations.
• Female foeticide is a matter of deep shame and
mothers-in-law should lead in protecting the girl child.
Prime Minister
• Programme was launched two years ago from Haryana
• Aim: to generate awareness and improve the efficiency
of welfare services intended for girls.
• The scheme has been expanded from the present 161
districts to 640 all over the country.
•National Nutrition Mission (NNM) and NNM-ICDS Common Application Software.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
• The mission strives to reduce under-nutrition and low birth weight and bring down Anaemia among children, women and adolescent girls.
• The objective is also to reduce stunting in children.
• The government today announced launch of 100 per cent oxobiodegradable sanitary napkins named Suvidha as a special gift for women.
• It is priced at an affordable rate of 10 rupees for a pack of four pads.

• 3200 Janaushadhi Kendrasacross India
• SUVIDHA napkins would be physically available at all Janaushadhi Kendras in the country by May 28, 2018World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Minister informed.
• Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)

• Launched a portal for women entrepreneurs of India : www.udyamsakhi.org.
• The Minister said that India has around 8 million women who have started and are running their own businesses and the Ministry of MSME believes that the women in India can play a vital role in the growth of the Indian economy.
• The portal is a network for nurturing entrepreneurship and creating business models for low cost products and services in order to empower
women and make them self-reliant and self-sufficient.
• The portal provides assistance through its platform for entrepreneurship learning tools, incubation facility, training programs fo SWAYAM: WAYAM will provide one integrated platform and portal for online courses, using information and communication technology (ICT) and covering all higher education subjects and skill sector courses.
SWAYAM Prabha: is an initiative to provide 32 high quality educational channels through DTH (Direct to Home) across the length and breadth of the country on  4X7 basis.
National Digital Library (NDL): project is to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility.

Ministry of Human Resource Development

e-Shodh Sindhu: Consortia for Higher Education EResources is to provide access to quality electronic resources including full-text, bibliographic and factual databases to academic institutions at a lower rates of subscription.
The Free and Open Source Software for Education (FOSSEE): project has been promoting use of open source software in educational institutions.
 Virtual Lab: The project aims to provide remote-access to virtual laboratories in various disciplines of science and engineering for students at all levels from under-graduate to
research
