PMO

  • The country today marked its 72nd Independence Day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the celebrations in the national capital.
  • From the ramparts of the historic Red Fort, Mr Modi unveiled the world’s largest government funded healthcare programme – the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan.
  • In his Independence day speech, Mr Modi said, there is a need to ensure social justice for all and create an India that is progressing rapidly.
  • He said, the recently concluded Parliament session was devoted to social justice.
  • The Prime Minister announced that by 2022 or before that an Indian astronaut, be it son or daughter, will go into space on board ‘Gaganyaan.
  • Mr Modi declared that women officers commissioned in short service in the Armed Forces will get the opportunity for permanent commission like their male counterparts.
  • On Triple Talaq, the Prime Minister said, the practice has caused great injustice to Muslim women and the Government will ensure that justice is done.
  • On Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Modi said, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had shown the path of Insaniyat, Kashmiryat and Jamhuriyat. He said, government does not believe in bullet and abuse and all the problems of the state can be resolved by embracing people.
  • He said, preparations for the long-standing panchayat and local body elections are underway to further strengthen democracy in the State..
  • In his fifth address from the Red Fort, the Prime Minister said, the decisions on One Rank One Pension and increasing Minimum Support Price were pending for years, which were taken by his Government.
  • The Prime Minister said, the government will not spare the corrupt and those who have black money as they have ruined the nation.
  • He said, the honest taxpayers of the country have a major role in the progress of the nation.
  • He said, due to Swachh Bharat mission, lakhs of children are leading healthier lives.

Rajya Sabha

  • Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that we should teach our traditions, our rich cultural heritage to Children so that our cultural heritage is protected.
  • He was interacting with the School Children from various Schools from Delhi who called on him to greet him on the Independence Day.
  • The Vice President said that Children are future of our nation and they should be given good education as well as good conduct.
  • He further said that we should also teach about sacrifices made by our great leaders for Freedom which will be a tribute to those great leaders.
  • The Vice President said that Children should be made to remember Mother, Mother tongue, Motherland and Birth place.
  • He further said that we should also make our Children to speak only in Mother tongue at home. We should imbibe the feeling of first we are Indians, then we are others, he added.
  • The Vice President said that we should teach our Children to Respect Nature and Live with Nature.
  • We should make them understand Nature and Culture together for Better Future which is important in everyone’s life, he added.

Ayushman Bharat

  • Ayushman Bharat, CEO Indu Bhushan has said, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan under Ayushman Bharat is ready to be rolled out on 25th of next month.
  • Mr Bhushan said, 29 states and and Union Territories are on board so far.
  • We prepared the software and which is now being rolled down in states, so in next 40 days, we will be going from state to state and ensuring that they can launch the scheme by 25th of September.
  • So far, we have 29 states on board and seven states are still to come on board. We are working with them and we are hopeful that in next few weeks, few states also join the mission.

ISRO

  • After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on space mission Gaganyaan, ISRO Chairman K Sivan said, it is ready to carry out the task entrusted to it by the Prime Minister.
  • Addressing media persons in Bengaluru today, the Chairman said, the space agency has already developed the necessary technology.
  • Dr. Sivan informed that infrastructural facilities for the manned mission will be developed in a time bound manner within the deadline set by Mr Modi.

  • Veteran leader and Former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away this evening in New Delhi.
  • The 93 year old veteran leader breathed his last at 5:05 PM at AIIMS where he was admitted for treatment.
  • AIIMS said, Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital on 11th of June this year and was stable in the last nine weeks under the care of a team of AIIMS doctors.
  • Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated over the last 36 hours and he was put on life support systems.
  • The Government has announced a seven-day state mourning throughout the country as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • During the period, the national flag will fly at half mast throughout India till 22nd of this month.
  • The Tri-colour will fly half mast on the day of funeral at all Indian Missions and High Commission of India abroad.
  • The departed dignitary Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be accorded a State funeral.
  • State funeral will take place at Smriti Sthal in the national capital tomorrow at 4 PM.
  • Union Cabinet has announced a half day holiday in the afternoon tomorrow in all Central government offices and CPSUs across the country.
  • Delhi government offices, schools and institutions will remain closed tomorrow as a mark of respect to Vajpayee.
  • Several state governments have also announced a holiday tomorrow.
  • Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee have been brought to his residence in New Delhi. Addressing media, BJP Chief Amit Shah said, his last journey will begin from BJP office to Smriti Sthal at 1 PM.
  • Condolences are pouring in from all quarters following the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s legacy as Prime Minister is a rich one that will be remembered and cherished even decades later.
  • It includes forward looking economic policies and massive infrastructure projects like development of national highways.
  • An ardent champion of women’s empowerment and social equality, Vajpayee believed in a fast moving India, a strong and prosperous nation confident of its rightful place in the comity of nations.
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee was awarded the India’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna in 2015.
  • The country’s second highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan, was conferred upon him in recognition of his selfless dedication to his first and only love, India, and his more than half-a-century of service to society and the nation. In 1994, he was named India’s ‘Best Parliamentarian.’
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as the Prime Minister of India, thrice, first for a term of 13 days in 1996, for a period of eleven months from 1998 to 1999, and then for a full term from 1999 to 2004.
  • With his swearing-in as Prime Minister after the Lok Sabha polls of October 1999, he became the first and only person since Jawaharlal Nehru to occupy the office of the Prime Minister of India through three successive Lok Sabhas.
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s words and mannerisms carried a charisma that made even his political opponents hold him in high regard.
  • In 1996, Vajpayee formed a minority government which continued for 13 days. In a thunderous speech, he had announced his resignation in the Parliament.
  • Later, the Lok Sabha was dissolved and fresh elections were held in 1998 which again made BJP the winner and Mr Vajpayee the Prime Minister.
  • Under his leadership in the same year, India successfully conducted Pokhran-II nuclear tests and cemented its position as a nuclear state.
  • As a foreign minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the first person to speak in Hindi in the United Nations in 1977. In his speech, Mr Vajpayee pointed attention towards prevailing world problems.
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been known for his master oratory and poems. His poems in Hindi have found critical acclaim and resonates with the masses till now.
  • 93 year old, Vajpayee was born on 25th December 1924, at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. He was the son of Krishna Bihari Vajpayee and Krishna Devi.
  • Vajpayee’s first brush with nationalist politics was in his student days, when he joined the Quit India Movement of 1942 which hastened the end of British colonial rule.
  • A student of political science and law, it was in college that he developed a keen interest in foreign affairs. • He had embarked upon a journalist’s career, which was cut short in 1951 when he joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the fore-runner of today’s Bharatiya Janata Party. Vajpayee was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1957 and had a long parliamentary experience spanning over four decades.
  • He was elected to the Lok Sabha nine times and two times for the Rajya Sabha. There is a very famous poem he wrote after his treatment in US about his encounter with death.

Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare

  • The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh has written to the Director General, United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) and proposed the declaration of an upcoming year as “International Year of Millets”.
  • The Union Agriculture Minister stated that India is celebrating 2018 as the National Year of Millets and is promoting cultivation by amending cropping pattern of areas which are especially susceptible to climate change.
  • Millets are highly nutritious and useful in various lifestyle diseases, enhancing resilience and risk management in face of climate change especially for small and marginal farmers.
  • “It is highly desirable that global efforts are stepped up to bring these nutricereals back to the food basket of a wide range of consumers, rural and urban as well as rich and poor, for boosting their production as well,” he added.
