Social Justice and Empowerment Minister

The Lok Sabha today passed the Constitution 123rd Amendment Bill with over two-third majority.
The Bill was passed superseding the amendments done by the Rajya Sabha.
The Bill seeks to grant constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes.
All 406 members present in the House voted in favour.
Thawar Chand Gehlot said, the Modi Government is dedicated for the poor, backward and the downtrodden. He said, by getting the constitutional status, the Commission will be further strengthend.

Rajnath Singh today asserted that the Government wants to pass an amendment bill in the ongoing session of Parliament to restore the original provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Mr Singh was responding to the issue raised by the Congress during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha.
He said, the Union Cabinet yesterday approved the Bill in this regard and the NDA Government wants to pass it in this session.

The Government has approved e-auction of 683 private FM radio channels covering 236 cities.
These include 175 cities having population above one lakh and up to 3 lakh besides 10 cities in border areas of Jammu and Kashmir and North Eastern states having population upto one lakh.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said, presently AIR has 476 transmitters at 442 locations which provide FM coverage to urban, semi urban, rural, hilly, border and Left Wing Extremism affected areas of the country.

In Tamil Nadu, the Centre’s flagship programme, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana is not only increasing rural incomes and mobility but is also providing access to better quality education and healthcare.
More than 7000 roads, had been constructed in the state, with a total length of over 15,000 kilometers till 2016-17.
In Tamil Nadu, all villages with population above 1000 have already been connected with macadamized roads. With respect to villages with population between 500 and 900, 99% of the work has been completed. In 2016-17 alone, 605 roads with a total length of 1366 km, were completed in the state.
In Tanjore district, the number of roads laid during the period was 11. Gajendran from Vadasseri in Tanjore district says the tarred roads have made it easier to transport agricultural products to nearby markets.

Sushma Swaraj today reached Kazakhstan’s capital Astana on the first leg of her three-nation trip to Central Asian Countries.
She will also visit Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan as part of India’s efforts to boost strategic partnership with these resource-rich countries.
In a tweet, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, Kazakhstan is India’s largest trade and investment partner in Central Asia and both countires have a close strategic partnership.
During her visit to Astana, the minister will hold a bilateral meeting with her Kazakhstani counterpart Kairat Abdrakhmanov. She will also call on the country’s leadership and interact with Indian community.

On May 23, 2016, India became the fifth nation to successfully conduct the flight demonstration of a scaled down version of a winged-body reusable launch vehicle, thereby validating the critical technologies such as autonomous navigation, guidance & control, reusable thermal protection system and re-entry mission management.
This flight represented the first baby step towards the realisation of a future fully reusable Two Stage To Orbit (TSTO) space transportation system.
A fully reusable Two Stage To Orbit (TSTO) Launch Vehicle, that can launch payloads to Low Earth Orbit with 15 times reusability, is expected to reduce the launch cost by approximately 50 – 60% when compared to that of an expendable launch vehicle.

Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that Share and Care is the Core of Indian Philosophy. He was addressing the gathering at the 141st Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Shri Pingali Venkaiah, the designer of Indian National Flag, organized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Sri Pingali Venkaiah Charitable Trust & Smarak Samastha, here today.
The Vice President said that it is the good fortune of Telugu people, that Shri Pingali Venkaiah who designed the National Flag representing the glory of the Indian culture, belongs to the state of Andhra Pradesh.
He has devoted his entire life to the nation and worked relentlessly to make India a free country, he added.

Suresh Prabhu said that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become an exemplary model in the country for companies who have realized that their financial success is incomplete without support of the society.
CSR is a reality and it makes commercial sense for corporates to invest in society.
He said availability of water is going to be a major issue and it should be ensured that India, the third largest economy by then, is not water stressed.
Suresh Prabhu suggested that corporates should provide new technology and managerial expertise to address the crisis in availability of potable water.
Indian footwear Industry has a huge potential for export and employment generation.
India will soon become a global hub for manufacturing of footwear to cater to growing demand.
The government of India is formulating a strategy for greater coordination with States as well as trade bodies for global promotion of India’s footwear industry.
To realise this a special package of ₹ 2600 crore was approved by the Government for employment generation in leather and footwear sectors last year.
Efforts are being made to boost India’s leather and footwear trade to new markets in African countries.

DRDO conducted the successful test of the Ballistic Missile Interceptor Advanced Area Defence (AAD) at 1130 hrs today from Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.
The endo-atmospheric missile, capable of intercepting incoming targets at an altitude of 15 to 25 kms was launched against multiple simulated targets of 1500 km class ballistic missile.
One target among simultaneously incoming multiple targets was selected on real time, the weapon system radars tracked the target and the missile locked on to it and intercepted the target with a high degree of accuracy.
The complete event including the engagement and interception was tracked by a number of electro-optical tracking systems, radars and telemetry stations. All the mission objectives were successfully met.

Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Power have joined hands under the initiative SAATHI(Sustainable and Accelerated Adoption of efficient Textile technologies to Help Small Industries) in order to sustain and accelerate the adoption of energy efficient textile technologies in the powerloom sector and cost savings due to use of such technology.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Public Sector entity under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, will replace old inefficient electric motors with energy efficient IE3 motors which will result in energy and cost saving up to 10-15% in the first phase.
The use of these efficient equipments will result in energy savings and cost savings to the unit owners at no upfront cost. Powerloom clusters at Ichalkaranji, Bhiwandi, Erode, Surat, Bhilwara and Panipat have been identified for pilot study.
