U.S WARNING
- S. hopes that India “does not inadvertently subject itself to untoward security risk” by using 5G equipment from the Chinese tech giant.
- S warned India that if Huawei is allowed access to Indian companies then many U.S companies will find it difficult to work in Indian market
WHAT INDIAN BUSINESSMEN SAID
- Indian businessman, Sunil Bharti Mittal, who is chairman of Bharti Enterprises, defended Huawei.
- “India will take this advice carefully, but the decision will have to be taken politically,” Bharti Mittal said
UNDERSTANDING THE DYNAMICS
- The trials are expected to be held in January 2020 and will be followed by auctions later on in the year in which the 5G spectrum will make its debut.Telcos have been urging the government to relook at the spectrum pricing but so far , the government has not budged from its stance.
AUCTION
- Under the scheme, the government plans to auction around 8,293.95 MHz of airwaves at an estimated total base price of Rs 5.86 lakh crore.
- The DoT has suggested a base price for 5G airwaves at Rs 492 crore per MHz and proposed a sale of a minimum 20 MHz blocks, which would mean a telco spending close to Rs 10,000 crore for 20 MHz, and Rs 50,000 crore for 100 MHz.
