• The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), known as the Hare Krishna movement or Hare Krishnas, is a Gaudiya Vaishnava Hindu religious organisation.
• ISKCON was founded in 1966 in New York City by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
• The organization was formed to spread the practice of Bhakti yoga, the practice of love of God in which those involved (bhaktas) dedicate their thoughts and actions towards pleasing Krishna, the Supreme Lord.

• Gaudiya Vaishnava Hindu religious organization ISKCON (or International Society for Krishna Consciousness) has lodged a police complaint against woman stand-up comedian and Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd for “using inappropriate words for ISKCON, for our rishis, and Hindus”.
• The complaint came after a video of one Surleen Kaur went viral on social media in which she said, “Beshak hum sab ISKCON wale hain, par andar se sab porn wale hain.”
• During an act in 2019, Kaur linked ISKCON with pornography. The complaint was filed today after massive outrage on social media.

SHEMAROO

•  On the back foot after facing backlash, Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd disassociated itself with the comedian and tweeted, “Further to our unconditional apology to ISKCON community for the comments made by Ms. Surleen Kaur, we have decided to disassociate ourselves from any further involvement with Ms Surleen Kaur and Mr Balraj Syal as they failed to meet our standards of public decency.”

RESPONSE

• However, Radharamn Das, Vice President and spokesperson ISKCON, refused to accept the apology saying that it has become a trend to demean Sanatan Dharma.
• “No more. We will make an example out of this nonsense. Enough is enough,” he tweeted.
• In the letter, Radharamn Das says, there is a growing trend in India, “where Hinduism/Sanatan Dharma and our Rishi-Munis, Deities etc are being constantly abused by a group of people and organizations.”

 RESPONSE

•  “There is a hidden propaganda and conspiracy to defame Sanatan Dharma, our Rishi Munis so that the youths can be easily manipulated. Through app’s like Tik-Tok etc the focus of the foreign power’s is to destroy the character of the masses so that country can be easily controlled & destroyed. We can learn this from the example of China itself. When the ancient Chinese decided to live in peace, they made the great wall of china, they thought no one can climb it due to its height”, the letter further added.
