SO WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) on announced that it had won an additional, $777- million contract from India for the supply of longrange surface-to-air missile (LRSAM) defence systems to the Indian Navy. The system is a naval version of the anti-missile defence system Barak 8.
BUT WHY INDIA HAS TO BUY BARAK 8?
Why does India need to buy Barak-8 missiles from Israel when it was jointly developed by both countries? Barak 8 was jointly developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Israel’s Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure, Elta Systems, Rafael and other companies. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) produce the missiles. Both Israeli & Indian military is buying it from this joint venture.

“The contract was entered with Indian state-owned company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) which serves as the main contractor in the project, the Israeli company said in a statement.”
ABOUT BARAK 8
Barak 8 is an operational system that provides a full response to a range of threats, built to cooperate with other systems, it provides customers with operational flexibility for maximum effectiveness on the battlefield
