PSLV
- PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) is an indigenously-developed expendable launch system of the ISRO.
- PSLV is used for delivering various satellites to Low Earth Orbits. It is designed mainly to deliver the “earth- observation” or “remote-sensing” satellites with lift-off mass of up to about 1750 Kg
CARTOSAT-3
- Cartosat-3 satellite is a third generation agile advanced satellite having high resolution imaging capability.
- The satellite was placed in an orbit of 509 km at an inclination of 97.5 degree.
SUN SYNCHRONOUS ORBIT
- India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C47 launched Cartosat-3 and 13 commercial nanosatellites into Sun Synchronous orbit
CARTOSAT SERIES
- The Cartosat satellites are a series of Indian earth observation satellites built and operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
- The Cartosat series is a part of the Indian Remote Sensing Program. They are used for Earth’s resource management defence services and monitoring.
CARTOSAT LIST
INTEGRATED SPACE CELL
- CARTOSAT-2A is a dedicated satellite for the Indian Armed Forces
- One of Cartosat-3’s cameras offers a ground resolution of 25 cm – this means it can pick up an object of a minimum of that size from a height of around 500 km.
- Currently,WorldView-3, a satellite owned by US company Maxar, has the best ground resolution of 31 cm.
CARTOSAT 3
- Mr Sivan said. “Cartosat-3 is India’s highest resolution civilian satellite, and the most complex and advanced earth observation satellite ISRO has built so far,”
CARTOSAT-3
- Launch mass 1,625 kg
- Mission duration 5 years
- Nano Satellite 1 to 10 (kg)
AMERICAN SATELLITES
- According to ISRO, 12 of the US nano satellites, named as FLOCK-4P, are earth observation satellites and the 13th is called MESHBED, a communication test bed satellite.
- Before today, India with its PSLV rocket has put into orbit 297 foreign satellites. When the PSLV rocket on Wednesday puts into orbit 13 American nano satellites then the total number of foreign satellites that India has launched will touch 310.
ORDER OF THE LAUNCH
- The order to launch the American satellites was bagged by the NewSpace India Limited formed only in March 2019, with an almost identical business plan to that of Antrix Corporation, the first commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
