FYI
Earth Observation Satellite EOS-04
- Earth observation satellites are mainly remote sensing satellites that gather information about Earth’s physical, chemical and biological systems.
- Many earth observation satellites have been employed on sun-synchronous orbit.
- Currently, 13 operational satellites are in Sun-synchronous orbit – RESOURCESAT-1/2/2A, CARTOSAT-1/2/2A/2B, RISAT-1/2, OCEANSAT-2, Megha-Tropiques, SARAL and SCATSAT-1, and 4 in Geostationary orbit- INSAT-3D, Kalpana & INSAT 3A, INSAT -3DR.

Small Satellite Launch Vehicle
Small Satellite Launch Vehicle
- ISRO had initially planned to launch SSLV in the first quarter of this year however due to covid-19 induced lockdowns there has been a delay.
- The SSLV will provide a payload capability of 500 kg to a 500-km planar orbit. (LEO). It is perfectly suited for launching multiple microsatellites at a time and supports multiple orbital drop-offs.
- The government has sanctioned Rs 169 crores for the development of the project. This will cover the development & qualification of the vehicle systems and the flight demonstration through three development flights (SSLV-D1, SSLV-D2 & SSLV-D3).
