Indo-French Joint Air Exercise

‘Garuda-VI’

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) and Armée de l’Air (French Air Force) are participating in Garuda VI, a bilateral air exercise at Mont de Marsan in France.
  • The last edition of joint exercise between IAF-FAF was held in June 2014 at Air Force Station Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This year was the 6th edition of exercise which took place from 1 July to 12 July 2019.
  • Shakti – India & France
  • Garuda Shakti – India & Indonesia
  • Mitra Shakti – India & SL
  • Harimau Shakti – India & Malaysia
  • India, China to conduct military exercise ‘Hand in Hand’ in Meghalaya
  • India and China will carry out a military exercise called ‘Hand-in-Hand’ in Meghalaya in December 2019.
  • The exercise will take place at Umroi, Meghalaya.

TSENTR-2019 : 10 September to 21 September at Orenburg in Russia.

  • It is a The Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) multilateral military exercise
  • For the second time in a row India took part in the drill and around 140 troops of the Indian Army participated
  • India became a full member of the SCO in June 2017

Biennial Multilateral Naval Exercise ‘MILAN’ to be Held at Visakhapatnam in March 2020

  • Indian Navy will organise the multilateral naval exercise MILAN at Visakhapatnam in March 2020.
  • Launched in 1995, the MILAN series of biennial exercises were organised at Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) till 2018.

 Shaheen VIII

  • The eighth edition of the bilateral aerial exercise between China and Pakistan named Shaheen VIII, is being held in the Chinese city of Holton, located close to the Indian border near Ladakh.

 Yudh Abhyas 2019

  • The Indo-US joint military training drill named Exercise Yudh Abhyas – 2019 was conducted at Joint Base Lewis Mc Chord, Washington, USA from 05-18 September 2019.
  • This was the 15th edition of the joint exercise, hosted alternately between India and United States.
  • Indo-US joint military exercise ‘Vajra Prahar’ to take place in Seattle from October 13

 SLINEX 2019

  • The Indian and Sri Lankan Navy did the annual Joint Indo-Lanka maritime fleet exercise SLINEX 2019 at the port of Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh on September 7, 2019.

Indo-Thailand joint military exercise Maitree 2019

  • India and Thailand organized Joint Military Exercise MAITREE-2019 at Foreign Training Node, Umroi (Meghalaya) from 16-29 Sep 2019.
  • The exercise ‘MAITREE’ is an annual training event which is being conducted alternatively in India and Thailand since 2006.

SITMEX 2019

  • The inaugural trilateral exercise, involving the Indian Navy (IN), the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), and the Royal Thailand Navy (RTN), recently commenced at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar.
  • SITMEX-2019 is five days long exercise.

Chang Thang

  • The Indian Army conducted a massive rare exercise involving all its arms and services including tanks, artillery and helicopters, in Eastern Ladakh bordering China, for testing and improving its war-fighting capabilities
  • The integrated exercise named ‘Chang Thang’ was conducted at a high altitude area in the region,
  • Indo-US ‘Tiger Triumph’ India and the United States are set to hold their first tri-services exercise code-named as ‘Tiger Triumph’ at Visakhapatnam and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. It is scheduled to be held in November 2019.
  • This will be only 2nd time that India will deploy assets and manpower from its Army, Navy and Air Force together for an exercise with a foreign country. India had earlier conducted similar tri-service exercise ‘Indra wargames’ with Russia at Vladivostok in 2017.

Malabar 2019”

  • The 23rd edition of the trilateral maritime exercise of India, Japan and the United States(US) named “Malabar 2019” exercise was held at Sasebo, Japan.

 KAZIND – 2019

  • The Armies of India and Kazakhstan conducted the annual joint military Exercise KAZIND-2019 at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand from 02 to 15 October 2019. KAZIND-2019 is the fourth edition of the exercise which is conducted alternatively in Kazakhstan and India.

Ekuverin – 19

  • The tenth edition of the Joint Military Exercise Ekuverin between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force – 07 to 20 October 2019 at Aundh Military Station in Pune, Maharashtra.
  • The Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Forces have been conducting Exercise Ekuverin meaning ‘Friends’ in the Dhivehi language since 2009.

Nomadic Elephant-XIV

  • 14th edition of Indo – Mongolian joint military training, Exercise Nomadic Elephant-XIV, being conducted over a period of 14 days, ll commenced at Bakloh in Himachal Pradesh.
  • The exercise will be conducted from 05 Oct 19 to 18 October
  • Indian Army begins its first mountain combat exercise ‘Him Vijay’ in Arunachal Pradesh
  • The Indian army will begin its first ever mountain combat on October 7. The exercise is to test the mobility, coordination and communication of the troops in difficult terrain.
  • ‘HimVijay’ in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam with its newly created Integrated Battle Groups (IBG) involving 15,000 troops

India – Bangladesh Navies Undertake Coordinated Patrol in North Bay of Bengal

  • The second edition of Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) of the navies of India and Bangladesh commenced in Northern Bay of Bengal.
  • The India Bangladesh CORPAT commenced in 2018. The exercise aims at development of mutual communication and sharing of best practices between the two navies.

 Dharma Guardian

  • Dharma Guardian, the joint military exercise between India and Japan, will be held at the Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School Vairengte in Mizoram from October 19 to November 2.
  • The exercise is an annual training event, which is being held in India since 2018. (Shinyuu maitri, Sahyog-Kaijin)

IMBEX 2018-19

  • The second edition of the India-Myanmar bilateral army exercise, IMBEX 2018-19, commenced at Chandimandir Military Station near Chandigarh.

‘Sea Vigil’

  • The Indian Navy has commenced its largest-ever coastal defence exercise – ‘Sea Vigil’-off the Indian coast, ten years after the “26/11” attack. 7516.6 km coastline 13 coastal States and Union Territories.

  • India engaged with 17 African nations in a joint military exercise in Pune in March 2019

  • Indian Army conducted its annual Exercise Topchi (Gunner) to demonstrate its artillery firepower and rocket display.
  • The exercise was conducted at firing ranges at Deolali Camp, Nashik, Mahasrashtra.

Vayu Shakti’

  • Indian Air Force conducted mega exercise ‘Vayu Shakti’ in Pokhran, Rajasthan.
  • The exercise was conducted two days after 40 CRPF personnel killed in a suicide attack in Kashmir’s Pulwama.
  • The honorary group captain of the IAF, Sachin Tendulkar was present during the exercise

Cobra Gold

  • Thailand and the United States hosted the annual the biggest activity of its type in the Asia-Pacific region with 29 nations taking part as participants or observers. It was held at various locations in Thailand.
  • Apart from the 2 countries, 7 countries who participated in the exercise were India, Singapore, Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea.
  • The Indian Army participated in the military training exercise with a 14-member contingent.

 ‘Sampriti 2019‘

  • As part of the ongoing India Bangladesh defence cooperation, a joint military exercise Sampriti-2019 was conducted at Tangail, Bangladesh from 02 March to 15 March 2019.

Mainamati Maitree Exercise 2019

  • Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) conducted a three-day ‘Mainamati Maitree Exercise 2019’ in Tripura.

Exercise Al Nagah III

  • Exercise Al Nagah III, third in the series of bilateral joint exercise between India and Oman was held from 12 to 25 March 2019 at Jabel Al Akhdar Mountains in Oman.

 ‘Sary-Arka-Antiterror 2019′ in Kazakhstan

  • The members of the Shanghai Cooperation Orgnisation (SCO), including India, Pakistan and China, took part in a joint counter-terrorism exercise ‘Sary-Arka-Antiterror 2019’

MITRA SHAKTI 2019

  • The 6th edition of India, Sri Lanka joint military exercise MITRA SHAKTI 2019 was conducted from 26 March to 08 April 2019 in Sri Lanka.

AUSINDEX 2019

  • India and Australia conducted AUSINDEX 2019 bilateral naval exercise off the coast of Vishakhapatnam in Bay of Bengal from April 2 to 16, 2019
  • This is the Third Installment of the Joint Naval Exercise of India and Australia AUSINDEX

 “Bold Kurukshetra-2019”

  • The 12th edition of the India – Singapore Bilateral Defence Exercise Bold Kurukshetra 2019 was held at Babina Military Station in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh from April 8-11, 2019.

 ‘IN – VPN BILAT EX’

  • The Indian Navy held the second edition of the bilateral maritime exercise between Indian Navy and Vietnam Peoples’ Navy at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam during April 13-16, 2019.
  • The maiden edition was conducted in May 2018 at Da Nang, Vietnam.

Exercise ‘VARUNA’

  • The 17th edition of ‘Varuna’, an Indo-French naval exercise took place at Panaji, Goa
  • The first part of the joint naval exercise, ‘Varuna’, is being held from May 1-10 off the Goa coast, while the second part of the Indo-French naval exercise, christened as Varuna 19.2 was held from 22nd to 25th May 2019 in Djibouti.
  • The bilateral naval exercise was initiated in 1983 and it was christened as ‘Varuna’ in 2001.
  • The 26th edition of Singapore India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) held in Singapore
  • Indian Armed Forces Conducts Exercise Bull Strike at Teressa Island in Andaman
  • The Indian Armed Forces carried out Exercise Bull Strike at Teressa Island in Andaman and Nicobar to showcase joint operations capability of the armed forces.

 ADMM-Plus Maritime Security Exercise

  • The Indian naval ships INS Kolkata and INS Shakti reached Busan in South Korea on April 28 to participate in the three days ADMM-Plus Maritime Security Field Training Exercise (FTX).
  • The exercise is a part of deployment of the Eastern Fleet to the South China Sea.
  • The ADMM-Plus (Asean Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus) is a platform for the ASEAN states and its dialogue partners to strengthen security and defence cooperation for peace, stability and development in the region.
  • The ADMM-Plus countries include ten ASEAN Member States and eight dialogue countries, namely Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the United States.

Exercise “Kharga Prahar”

  • The Indian Army in Punjab, Kharga Corps, carried out a major training exercise named “Kharga Prahar” from May 27 to June 4, 2019 in the plains of Punjab. Ambala based II Corps, also known as Kharga Corps, is part of Western Command of Indian Army.
