➢ The Odisha government has taken a decision for installation of Early Warning Dissemination System(EWDS) under national cyclone risk mitigation project.
➢ Detailing the project, Special Relief Commissioner P Mohapatra said the system would provide for last mile communication connectivity, strengthen the existing communication system and bridge the prevailing gaps in dissemination of the information to the people
➢ The system would be installed in 22 blocks of 6 coastal districts namely Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri and Ganjam.
➢ The project at an estimated cost of Rs.65 crore, would be implemented with World Bank assistance.
➢ The project would have components like Satellite based mobile data voice terminals, digital mobile radio, mass messaging provision, alert siren system at 122 locations along the coast line

➢ Odisha government signed an MoU with the Thailand-based Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) for enhancing early warning system for effective management of disasters in the state
➢ The MoU will help state government to integrate new generation digital algorithm-based technologies and best practices from 48 RIMES member countries with the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA)
