Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved yet another feat today with the successful test flight of ‘NIRBHAY’
It was successfully test fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha.

Why NIRBHAY is important?

1. India’s first indigenously designed and developed Long Range Sub-Sonic Cruise Missile.
2. It can be deployed from multiple platforms.
3. Carry warheads of up to 300 kg.

• The missile has the capability to loiter and cruise at 0.7 Mach, at altitudes as low as 100 m.
• Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala said she was optimistic that this successful trial would take India to the select League of Nations for possessing this complex technology and sub-sonic cruise missile capability.

Ministry of Women and Child Development

• WCD Minister Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi today launched SHe-Box
• It is an online complaint Management System for women working in both public and private organizations to lodge complaints of sexual harassment at workplace.
• Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi said that this is a historic step since it is probably the first ever time that the government of any country has launched an online portal to receive complaints of sexual harassment at workplace.
• Ensuring the dignity and safety of women must be first priority for any digital society.
• Towards realisation of the vision of the Digital India programme, the Ministry is promoting utilisation of information and communication technology to achieve the goal of gender equality and women empowerment.
• It is an effort to utilise the digital space to enable speedier response to the complaints of women against sexual harassment at workplace.

Ministry of External Affairs

• India has pledged an additional $100 million towards the UN Partnership Fund.
• India is significantly scaling up it support to sustainable development projects across the developing world.
• This was announced by the Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of India to the UN, Anjani Kumar, yesterday at the 2017 UN Pledging Conference for Development Activities.
• He said this contribution would be in addition to India’s contribution of 10.582 million US dollar  to various other UN Programmes.
