- Political analysts have tied the 2020 protests to a socio-economic divide between Kyrgyzstan’s agrarian south and more-developed north.
- The north has effectively ruled the country for long (But not now!) and is more advanced economically and more homogeneous (Russo-Kyrgyz).
- The south is more conservative and traditional. It is more agrarian than the north. South is ethnically mixed and is not monolithic.

- Since the protests started, the elections have been annulled and will be re-held as announced by their Election commission.
- The protestors took over most of the government apparatus after the elections, halting many foreign gold mining operations that have evoked an expression of concern from Russia.
- After takeover, Kyrgyzstan’s parliament unanimously approved Sadyr Japarov as the country’s new prime minister.
- Opposition parliamentarians launched impeachment procedures against President Sooronbai Jeenbekov.
