48th World Economic Forum
- He is onway to Davos from Zurich where he reached this evening.
- The Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with the President of Swiss Confederation, Alain Berset tonight.
- Mr Modi will deliver the keynote address at the plenary session tomorrow, the first day of the four-day long annual summit at Davos.
- Founder and Executive Chairman of World Economic Forum: Prof Klaus Schwab
- Theme: Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World
- Mr Modi’s visit marks the first ever visit of any Indian Prime Minister in the past 20 years.
- During his visit, Mr Modi will interact with the top global business leaders.
- He will showcase ‘New India’ to global chief executives at the summit.
- The Indian presence is set to be the largest ever with Union ministers, two chief ministers, Several top government officials and over 100 CEOs participating.
- India is hosting the welcome reception at the World Economic Forum.
- Indian food and Yoga will mark the commencement ceremony of 48th World Economic Forum annual meet in snow-capped town of Davos.
- Indian cuisine including ‘chai-samosa’ and several Gujarati dishes, will be served to the participants at the welcome reception.
- The official sessions at WEF will also have special India-Focused discussions including one on “India’s role in the world”.
Defence Ministry
- Nirmala Sitharaman has said that India’s Act East policy is really taking shape and the presence of ten ASEAN leaders during the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi will definitely showcase that policy.
- She visited to the NCC Republic Day Camp at Delhi Cantonment. • Leaders of all the ten ASEAN member countries will be guests of honour at the ceremonial parade at Rajpath on Friday.
External Affairs Ministry
- Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau will be on a state visit to India from 17th to 23rd of next month.
- The visit is aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in key areas of mutual interest including
• Trade and investment
• Energy
• Science and innovation
• Higher education
• Infrastructure development
• Skill development
• Space
• Cooperation in security and counterterrorism as well as exchange of
views on global and regional issues of mutual interest will also form
important components of the visit. - Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
- The Government has decided to install super-efficient air conditioners
in 2,500 of its buildings for the first time in the country. - Consume 30% less power and will be environment-friendly.
- One lakh conventional air conditioners will be replaced by super-efficient Acs
- He said that India will adhere to its commitment made in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change
- Dr. Harsh Vardhan also said that all automobiles will be converted to electric vehicles, keeping in view the government’s commitment to shift to electric mobility by the
year 2030. - India’s committed
- Install 175 GW of solar, wind and biomass electricity by 2022
- Reduce emission intensity by 33-35% from its 2005 levels by 2030,
- Create an additional carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide
equivalent by 2030 though additional forest and tree cover - Produce 40% electricity from non-fossil fuel based energy resources by 2030.
Election Commission
- Shri Om Prakash Rawat today assumed charge as 22nd Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India
- Shri Ashok Lavasa today assumed charge as the new Election Commissioner (EC) of India.
