TERROR ATTACK

• Pulwama  is a town and a notified area committee in Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is almost 40 km (25 mi) from the summer capital of Srinagar. At least 44 jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in a dastardly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama. The well-planned attack used a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (known as VBIED) to target a CRPF bus that was part of a 70-vehicle convoy

THE ATTACK

• The convoy was on the Srinagar-Jammu highway and was on its way to Pulwama when a suicide bomber belonging to the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad drove an explosive-laden SUV into the bus. The SUV — a Tata Sumo — was carrying explosives weighing nearly 300 kgs and the bus had 39 jawans on board. The bus targetted by the suicide bomber, who the Jaishe-Mohammad identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, was completely destroyed in the attack. Adil Ahmad Dar who carried out the Terrorist Attack joined Jaish-E-Mohammad last year, he was from Kakapora which is a tehsil in Pulwama district,The question we must ask ourselves is why the Kashmiri Youth are joining Terrorist groups & non-state actors

• Terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack The JeM is a militant Islamic group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in March 2000. Azhar had created the group with the sole aim of separating Kashmir from India and merging it with Pakistan.

• In January 2016, Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out a terror strike on India Air Force’s (IAF) Pathankot airbase, killing seven personnel 6. In September 2016, the Masood Azhar-led outfit carried out another attack on an Indian Army base in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri, killing 19 soldiers in what was the deadliest attacks on Kashmir so far

CHINA’S PROTECTION

• China has blocked India’s efforts to designate Masood Azhar under the Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council citing lack of consensus among the members of the Council
