PUZZLE—1
Eight residents namely A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H, paid electricity bills for their respective homes, of different amounts among Rs. 1000, Rs. 1500, Rs. 1750, Rs. 2000, Rs. 2250, Rs. 2500, Rs. 2750 and Rs. 3000, not necessarily in the same order. They stay in the same locality, whose housing structure is presented at the end of the question, whereby distance between (1-2), (2-3), (3-4), (4-5), (5-6), (6 -7), (7-8), (8-1) is 40m and numbers from 1 to 8 represent the residences of these persons, but not necessarily in the same order: D‘s residence is located mid-way between the residence of F and that of the resident who paid electricity bill of the highest amount, all of their residences being located in a straight line. The residence of B, who paid electricity bill of Rs. 2000, is the first residence to the east of that of the resident who paid electricity bill of an amount which is less than that paid by B. The residence of C is related to the residence of H in the same way as the residence of E is related to the residence of G in terms of both position as well as distance. The shortest distance between the residences of D and A is 80m. The resident whose residence is to the extreme south of the residence of F, paid electricity bill of an amount which is a multiple of 750. None of the residents, who paid electricity bills of amounts which are multiples of 1000, reside next to each other in the same column or same row. Either E or H paid electricity bill of the lowest amount. C exits from his home and he is facing north, he starts turning in anti-clockwise direction and the first residence he will face after turning shall be the residence of the person who paid electricity bill of an amount, which is lower than that paid by C and whose average with that paid by C equals 2000. The residence of D is located horizontally to that of the resident who paid electricity bill of an amount lower than that paid by D but difference between their amounts is a multiple of 200. H did not pay electricity bill of Rs. 2750.

There are seven students namely, P, Q, R, S, T, U and V, who scored different percentage of marks in HSC exam (in %) among- 65, 72, 73, 79, 86, 89 and 93. They also scored different percentage of marks from each other in SSC exam. In HSC exam, T scored 7% more than that of U in HSC exam. Sum of the percentage of marks scored in HSC and SSC exams by U is 162, which is same as that of P. In HSC exam, the difference in the percentage of marks scored by T and P is 14. The student, who scored highest percentage of marks in HSC exam, scored 1% less in his SSC exam than that of P in SSC exam. Sum of the percentage of marks scored in HSC and SSC exam by S is 1% more than the sum of percentage of marks scored in HSC and SSC by the student who scored highest marks in HSC exam. In HSC exam, S scored 16% more than some other student in HSC exam. Sum of the percentage of marks scored in HSC and SSC exam by V is 164 and he is not the lowest scorer in HSC exam. In HSC exam, R scored more percentage of marks than Q in HSC exam. In SSC exam, the sum of the percentage of marks scored by Q and V is 186. Sum of the percentage of marks scored in HSC and SSC exams by Q is 160. One student scored 79% in SSC exam. In SSC exam, the sum of the percentage of marks scored by T and R is not 168. Sum of the marks scored in HSC and SSC exams by R is not 152.
