• NCR RASTA  : Railway assets Summerised Tracking Application
• Yatri RASTA  : Railway Approach to Station Tracking Application
• The ‘NCR RASTA’ app is for the use of railway officers and staff and has exact mapping of all railway assets.  In case of an emergency, the railway staff would be able to reach the desired asset via the use of Google Navigation.
  
• The ‘Yatri RASTA’ app will allow general public to locate the railway stations easily
• The North Central Railway is one of the 18 railway zones in India.
• It comprises three divisions : Allahabad , Jhansi, Agra division
• eDrishti: software to help Railways Minister keep track of punctuality of trains
• Indian Railways launched a software named- ‘eDrishti’, that will help to keep track of punctuality of trains as well as freight and passenger earnings from anywhere in the country.
• The software has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS).
• The software has also been connected with the base kitchens of the Indian Rail Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC).
• Oshiwara Railway Station to be  named as Ram Mandir Railway Station
• Elphinstone Road  Railway station to be named after Prabhadevi 
• Mughalsarai Station renamed as Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction

• On September 11, 2018, the Minister of Railways and Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal launched a web portal called ‘Rail Sahyog’ to rope in corporate collaborations
• To enable Corporates and PSUs to contribute to upgradation through Corporate Social Responsibility funds.
• Corporates and PSUs willing to contribute can register themselves in the portal.
  

AAPOORTI” mobile app

•  Minister of Railways & Coal, Piyush Goyal launched a new mobile app named “AAPOORTI” of ‘Indian Railways e-procurement system’ (IREPS).
• The Aapoorti mobile app has been launched in a bid to provide information as well as data related to e-tendering and e-auction related activities of the national transporter
• To know about the e-tendering activities of Indian Railways, users of this mobile app can see details related to tenders published, tenders closed as well as purchase orders that have been placed.
• Also, for all the activities related to e-auction of scrap sale, the users with the help of Aapoorti mobile app can see the upcoming auctions, sale conditions, auction schedules, auctioning units, details of material available for e-auction etc.

100% Electrification of Broad Gauge Routes of Indian Railways 

• The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs  has approved the proposal for electrification of balance un-electrified BG routes of Indian Railways (IR) .
• This electrification is likely to be completed by 2021-22.
• Importance :
• The approved electrification will reduce the use of imported fossil fuels thereby improve energy security to the Nation.
• Indian Railways is likely to save Rs 13,510 crore per annum in fuel bill and the same will improve its finances.
• Improved signalling system will lead to enhanced safety in train operation
• Reduced dependence on imported petroleum based fuels will ensure energy security to the nation

(b) Dhaka-Tongi-Joydebpur Railway Project

• With  this line the existing route of 815 km will be reduced to 644 km.
• The implementation of the project will be through the Indian Port Rail Corporation Limited (IPRCL) on Joint Venture  SPV model.
• A Joint Venture Company will be formed between Ministry of Shipping or its nominated PSUs/Entity including JNPT (which will be the main promoter) with equity share of 55 per cent
• Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will have share of 15 per cent each.
  

• The mechanical branch of Central Railway‘s Nagpur division has developed a new AI-powered robot named USTAAD
• It examines parts of the coach in real time with a HD camera and transmits them over WiFi.
• The new Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered robot will click photos and record videos of the train, under the gears and then transmits them over WiFi to engineers for maintenance and repair.
• Since USTAAD can watch and examine areas which cannot be seen and approached by humans usually, due to the narrow spaces between under-gear parts, it will reduce chances of human error while examining undergear equipment on Indian Railways trains.
• It is also equipped with LED flood light which enables to capture the videos in low light as well as in dark mode.
• Railway Line between Bahraich and Khalilabad, Uttar Pradesh
• New Railway Line between Bahraich and Khalilabad via Bhinga, Shravasti, Balrampur,Utraula, Domariyaganj, Mehdawal, Bansi.
• The total length of the new Broad Gauge line will be 240.26 kilometers.
• The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 4939.78 crore. The project will be completed by 2024-25 and will lie in North Eastern Railway
• The approved line is passing through the district Shravasti (Bhinga) which is an important tourist place and closely associated with the life of Gautam Buddha.
• Shravasti is also an important tourist centre for Jains as the Sobhanath temple is believed to be the birthplace of the Tirthankara Sambhavanath.
• The Devi Patan temple in Tulsipur which is close to Balrampur town, is one of the famous 51 Shakti Peethas of Maa Durga.
• The line will promote tourism in the region.
